Yeah---but this would mean the user would have to be constantly connected to the web (not always easy/desirable), and it might start hitting some serious download data usage over the course of a 4-6 hour gaming session.

Urgh I HATE to think about all the billions that were at least in part inspired by D+D and its creators---only to see the company foundering like this. I am hopeful for D+D Next, but if it fumbles like 4e... Ugh.

I think Pathfinder will get a significantly extended life if someone comes out with an iOS/Android app that has a sweet character builder at its base--with other add-ons like treasure builder, monster generator etc.

Agree. Mass combat should be integrated at the foundation. Every other addition's ad hoc attempt has been clunky and cumbersome.

Yeah, but you are counting as if it is still the current version---which it is not. There are still folks playing 1E, but I do not think anyone would say it is still going strong. I might prefer 3.0/3.5 material, but I am dubious of it 'going strong' without WoTC support and new material...

Whatever they do, I pray they have iOS, Android versions accessible by phone or tablet. I would prefer to use a phone or tablet at a gaming table rather than lugging around a laptop plus printed hard copies or books. (Though I still love leafing through my 3.5 tomes, and occasionally my 1e tomes)
