D&D (2024) Magic Items & Crafting In The New Dungeon Master's Guide

This is the path they went with the downtime expansion in Xanathar's Guide, I expect that part of that will remain in the new crafting rules. On the other hand, not everyone that wants to use crafting wanted to include such quests diverting from the campaign (including me, I'd rather getting...

New Dungeons & Dragons Dungeon Master's Guide Art and Details Revealed

I do, too, I personally think this edition is very pretty. There's clearly a lot of very skilled artists rendering a lot of art for it that is aesthetically-pleasing if not outright inspiring. There is also clearly a unified art direction they've taken with this rules revision, one with an...

    D&D General Dmg previews up

That is one thing I really appreciate about the new PHB: adventuring gear can be very useful and worth investing in. However, most of it quite cheap to the loads of gold players end up with. Hopefully bastions will serve as a proper gold sink, or at least that the question of "what is money good...

    D&D (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

Pact Magic's description says you make a pact, tho So it's not that the pact is retroactive, it's that warlocks stumble into their pact without full knowledge of what deal they are making and with whom (which is restrictive but less silly). Obviously most warlock characters will be built with...

D&D (2024) Not loving weapon mastery with beginners

We're getting into subjective territory here but at the very least, giving martials a way of applying effects in combat to enemies using their weapons makes them more mechanically complex than "roll to hit, roll for damage." The weapon masteries also add a bit more depth to choosing what kind...

    D&D General Dmg previews up

We're 4 weeks past the early release of the PHB, 4 weeks before the early release of the DMG.... But a whole 4 months before the release of the MM. Yeesh. Which honestly, I'm more excited about as an experienced DM than the DMG proper. I'm really looking forward to the revised stat blocks and...

    D&D General Dmg previews up

I think the thing I'm most excited for are the planning printouts. Altogether they sound like they could be used to put together a really solid campaign planning folder. Almost makes me wanna try doing a campaign purely with handwritten notes... Almost.

WizKids Reveals Redesigned D&D Adult Black Dragon Miniature

I'm a huge fan of the green dragon's redesign too, making it more serpentine with a cobra-like hood. Not only does this play off their poison damage theming, it also plays on their drive to manipulate people through subterfuge (as associated with snakes, like in the Bible and... Aladdin)

D&D (2024) Not loving weapon mastery with beginners

This feels like a problem that could be solved by writing their weapons' mastery effects down on index cards and handing them to players at the start of each session. Most weapon masteries aren't any more complicated than the effects of any cantrips (ray of frost's slow, chill touch's healing...

    D&D (2024) Agathys forever

Actually, looking at polymorph has the same wording: "The spell ends early on the target if it has no Temporary Hit Points left." Shapechange also has this wording. I thought this was an oversight at first but the consistency across spells has me second-guessing that take.

    D&D (2024) Agathys forever

Polymorph, for sure. Getting 157 temp HP from becoming a giant ape is going to make that 25 damage when you get hit in melee go far.

    D&D (2024) Agathys forever

They're implying you would cast Armor of Agathys with a 5th-level spell slot (25 temp HP, 25 cold damage when hit), then use a spell like shapechange to give you more temp HP to keep that "25 cold damage when hit" thing going despite the initial 25 temp HP running low

Dungeon Master's Guide Previews Start October 1st

I'm most excited to see the final bastions system, if they did any revisions to Xanathar's downtime rules, and if the CR math has been adjusted at all. Generally I'm hoping the guidance it gives matches up with the PHB rules more directly--it's been clear for a long time that the 2014 core...

    D&D (2024) 2024 Player’s Handbook is ‘Fastest Selling D&D Book Ever’

I'm not surprised that it's selling better than the 2014 PHB, considering the context that book was developed and came out during, but three times as many is pretty amazing. The hobby seems to be doing factually well, despite the general negative slant discussion has had about D&D itself since...

D&D (2024) DMs what do you think of the new PHB?

As a DM, I really like that the rules are more concise, for players' sake. I think the Rules Glossary is a bit of a missed opportunity tho. It's not just a place to find quick definitions of things but it makes the core rules spread between the front and back sections of the book, so you'll be...

Dungeons & Dragons 2024 Player's Handbook Officially on Sale Today

You're gonna start with a feat, a weaker Origin feat. Humans start with 2. General feats for 4th level onward all provide a +1 to a stat so you won't fall behind stat-wise (ASI is a general feat they can take instead and is the default choice given in the class tables). The general feats are far...

Dungeons & Dragons 2024 Player's Handbook Officially on Sale Today

The good: monk and grapple buffs take it from a struggling MAD class for monk diehards to a very effective controller-type that would benefit any party The bad: ranger is basically just the Tasha's alt-features version but slightly worse The ugly: no background customization besides equipment...
