Chaosium Releases Basic Role Playing SRD

Pretty good summation, although Modiphius’ Star Trek isn’t Top 5. In recent times, Shadowrun, Alien, Vampire: The Masquerade and Legends of the 5 Rings have been making out the top 5 retail games. I think it mainly has to do with distribution channels. My understanding is that Call of Cthulhu is...

Chaosium Releases Basic Role Playing SRD

And maybe you need to read my post again. You could start by getting my username right! :D I actually stated in my post that "Classic Traveller remains available through various means” and indeed I own Classic Traveller (in its entirety). However, it doesn’t maintain any retail presence ie it...

Chaosium Releases Basic Role Playing SRD

Based on what data? Firstly, there still are some third parties that actually use the TAS program. Whether its been business suicide for them I don’t know, but it doesn’t seem likely. It just seems that the TAS works for them, while Mongoose themselves don’t seem flustered either way. Matt...

Get back to me when anybody actually signs up to use this licence.

Chaosium Releases Basic Role Playing SRD

Not really, no. Cepheus has had some support certainly, but really the sales are essentially PDF driven and account for a fraction of the sales that Traveller makes overall. The 2nd edition of Mongoose Traveller seems to be more focussed on concentrating on its own core setting than the 1st...

Chaosium Releases Basic Role Playing SRD

I think this is true, but there was more to the BRP system than just being percentile. Opinions may differ, but I think the scope of RuneQuest’s design at the time elevated the game and, in it’s stripped down version was arguably the strongest of the ‘first wave’ of RPG systems to come through...

Chaosium Releases Basic Role Playing SRD

As I pointed out before, the D20 OGL really has very little in common with this BRP document. Different market, different time, different goals.

Take A Peek Inside Warhammer 40K: Wrath & Glory!

The only counter to this is that they may just update the PDF copy of the original book, if purchased through drivethrurpg, without any extra charge. If I was requesting a copy at my FLGS, I’d be insisting on it being printed in 2020.

Take A Peek Inside Warhammer 40K: Wrath & Glory!

Hold on, this is a bit confused/confusing. Warhammer 40,000 - Rogue Trader was the name of the original Games Workshop publication for the miniatures game. It was released in 1987 and was significant for becoming largely the game that elevated Games Workshop from being a retail and mail-order...

Wow! It has.....a layout. That is an improvement in itself.

Chaosium Releases Basic Role Playing SRD

Delta Green, Mythras, Renaissance, OpenQuest, Legend...to name a few. All have their own markets, and none require the BRP logo. Much of the Mythras line is adopted from products that were originally billed as ‘BRP’ games, but switched because the Mythras brand gives them more support. There is...

Chaosium Releases Basic Role Playing SRD

It’s looking to be increasingly irrelevant, to be honest. Chaosium can’t really control other BRP spinoffs already in use by other companies, and putting out a document like this at this time seems a bit desperate. I’m not really sure who will use it or, indeed, who its aimed at.

Chaosium Releases Basic Role Playing SRD

"The Basic Roleplaying SRD is based on Basic Roleplaying, the simple, fast, and elegant skill-based percentile system that is the core of most Chaosium roleplaying games, including Call of Cthulhu, RuneQuest, SuperWorld, and others." Yet reading the current versions of Call of Cthulhu and...

Latest ICv2 Stats Sees Free League's 'Alien' RPG Sneak Into Top 5!

It’s had 30 years of a relatively high profile in gaming circles to build a fanbase. The art alone is pretty iconic these days.

Latest ICv2 Stats Sees Free League's 'Alien' RPG Sneak Into Top 5!

Well, yes, I assumed that the miniature line is really what FFG is now interested in maintaining - but my interest is just what is happening to the RPG. If they stall the RPG line, then I guess that is the end of that.

Latest ICv2 Stats Sees Free League's 'Alien' RPG Sneak Into Top 5!

Maybe. My understanding is that Asmodee are a distribution company though - do they have staff to write more books? Beyond that, I do wonder whether the movies finishing for the time-being might slow down sales in Star Wars gaming products? Personally, I’m just happy they did the 30th...

Latest ICv2 Stats Sees Free League's 'Alien' RPG Sneak Into Top 5!

Not sure how long Alien will last, to be honest, and Star Wars will need a new home soon or it’s going to drop down too I’d imagine. Big mover this last quarter was Shadowrun. V5 needs to get more supplements out - although there have been a couple out this last couple of weeks.

    Dune RPG Details Emerge!

We’ll have to see what the system will be like, but I am heartened to know that, regardless of the core system used, the rules for politics and intrigue will be treated as important as those for knife fighting. Big Tick.
