Mike Schley's MASSIVE Forgotten Realms Map From SCAG!

36" X 48" It's big. I'll either laminate it at work or put it in a frame from Michael's... Sorry, just noticed the pic uploaded upside down...

Mike Schley's MASSIVE Forgotten Realms Map From SCAG!

For 11.00 I had the map printed at Staples. Came out great!

Playing D&D at Gen Con: "What did he say?"

Now that I've gotten over the nasty Con Plague I contracted at Gen Con this year, I wanted to briefly share my experience of playing D&D and get some other perspectives... I thought the sound level was horrible. It was very hard to hear all but the loudest DM's and players over the din. The...

need suggestions for a paladin-related side quest

So, I'm running Hoard of the Dragon Queen, and the paladin in the party has as part of his backstory that he is a protege of the NPC Ontharr Frume, a paladin of Torm. Since the PC's are supposed to travel north to Elturel to see Ontharr, I thought it would be fitting and cool to have some sort...

    D&D 5E ForgedAnvil D&D 5E Character Generator

Help! I feel really stupid here. I have an old character file called "Ben Paladin Czeslaw" that I am trying to convert to the latest version (1.51) but I must be doing something wrong. When I am using the transfer tool and it asks for the character file, I select the "Ben Paladin Czeslaw"...

D&D 5E "My X is underpowered compared to Y." So?

True enough. This may just be about the subjectivity of the play experience, and the fact that the game is malleable enough to accommodate different play styles. If people want to play the damage output game, that's their option. If it works for them, enjoy!

D&D 5E "My X is underpowered compared to Y." So?

I've re-read through my original post, looking for the "ridicule." Not seeing it. At most, I suppose you could accuse me of being a condescending old person who is playing the "what's the matter with the game these days" card. Even if that was my stance (not exactly what I was shooting for)...

D&D 5E "My X is underpowered compared to Y." So?

Mean-spirited? Truly? I'm not sure what words or phrases (or what you are reading into them) suggest that to you. Let me rephrase and clarify: I'm coming from a situation of rejoining D&D (5e) from not having played since I was in my teens with 2nd Edition. I'm puzzled by the emphasis on...

D&D 5E "My X is underpowered compared to Y." So?

You make my point exactly. To my thinking, the best character is not necessarily the one who deals the most damage. The best character is the one who helps the group tell the collective story in a fun way.

D&D 5E "My X is underpowered compared to Y." So?

I honestly didn't have the thread you mention in mind; haven't read it. But I still think that comparing a sorcerer to a barbarian is odd. Even though a sorcerer seems to be a spellcaster who is more focused on offense, the class does have more to offer than just dealing damage, which is...

D&D 5E "My X is underpowered compared to Y." So?

I'm reading so very often people complaining that their Sorcerer/Monk/Ranger whoever doesn't do as much damage as some other class, and I'm wondering why some of us assume that all characters should deal damage equally. My understanding of the game is that different classes have strengths and...

D&D 5E Non-Scaling Class Specialties: Why Choose Them?

I appreciate a lot of these replies. It's clear to me t I am still in the mindset of older editions of DnD. Clearly, a +1 to a stat does carry a lot more weight than I am accustomed to thinking it does!

D&D 5E Non-Scaling Class Specialties: Why Choose Them?

PS: I'm assuming that with bounded accuracy, these non-scaling benefits might not be as seemingly limited as they seem. Having not played higher level characters yet, perhaps I just don't have the proper context...

D&D 5E Non-Scaling Class Specialties: Why Choose Them?

So, I'm still learning D&D 5E, and I'm reading through the classes in the PHB again. As I do so, I'm asking myself what choices I would make if I were going to play a fighter, cleric, etc. This leads me to ask: what would be the reasoning for taking a non-scaling class specialty? Let's look...

    D&D 5E ForgedAnvil D&D 5E Character Generator

These sheets are awesome! The only thing that prevents me from using them regularly is the small size of the print on things like spells, racial traits/abilities, etc. My eyesight is not great, and the text is hard to read when printed on paper, even with my bifocals. Is there a way to...

D&D 5E Extra attacks for barbarian and fighter

You make a good point. I was forgetting the fact that the Action Surge can only be used once until needing a rest... As far as the ranger goes, I'm totally ok with him/her not being quite as martial as a fighter or barbarian in terms of damage output. The ranger does have access to spells...

D&D 5E Extra attacks for barbarian and fighter

Thanks, Jester. It seems strange to me that these PCs can have 3-4-5 attacks, and yet the level 5 Beast Master ranger gets two (having to burn one to continually command his animal friend to attack, which seems illogical). I suppose if the ranger is a dual wielder you could say he/she gets...

D&D 5E Extra attacks for barbarian and fighter

P.S. I also understand that when the barbarian makes it known he/she is going into Frenzy mode, the extra attack doesn't kick in until the next turn...

D&D 5E Extra attacks for barbarian and fighter

I'm new to 5e, so apologies if my question seems obvious or rudimentary...If I'm reading the PHB correctly, a 5th level Path of the Beserker barbarian has the possibility of three attacks: his/her regular attack, the extra attack earned at level 5, and then a third attack (as a bonus action)...
