    If Gaming Wasn't Your Hobby...?

I did and do the exact things you mention. I still record stuff from time to time but all my time I spent writing short stories has gone into adventure writing and RPG book reading. I actually plan to close down one of the three weekly sessions I run to dedicate time to writing fiction again...

How Do You Reduce Your Collection?

I got so close to re-buying a couple 3.5 books last year. So glad I didn't as after the year long slog of running a 3.5 hexcrawl, I was asked myself why I didn't just use Pathfinder 1e. I feel I finally killed the idea that 3.5 had specific things I preferred over Pathfinder. It doesn't. My...

How Do You Reduce Your Collection?

This is sensible. For a module or something of that nature I want the paper copy because of all the flipping back and forth needed but for something referenced less often I only need the PDF. I also never crack a bestiary or monster manual anymore. Always relying on google and multiple tabs for...

How Do You Reduce Your Collection?

I've been considering selling some old stuff to nobleknight.com. I have a few things that have crept up to a pretty good price, books that I have never once used. I'm also going to sell all my 5e stuff.

Is there demand for a “tactical” RPG akin to 4e?

I scratch this itch with Rangers of Shadow Deep. But I've always played D&D with tactical combat so idk. Like many, disliked 4e, don't care for 5e so much either.

City adventures in very low-magic fantasy

They question I have is what would you like such an adventure to be based on if not a mystery, political intrigue or infiltration? Those three are pretty big halmarks of an urban campaign. Not so agnostic but have you ever looked into Thieves World? It is all about a crime infested city called...

Worlds of Design: Putting Up Walls

Great defensive structures are more interesting to me as ruins. It tells the players that something dangerous lay beyond, so dangerous that not even this monumental structure could stop it.

    D&D 5E Best Random Adventure/NPC/Exploration/Etc Generator Books

Ultimate Campaign and Gamemastery Guide from Pathfinder both have a bunch of tables for all sorts of stuff. Here are a few I am using on top of Donjon. If you were running 3.5 or Pathfinder I would have a library of links for you heh. Random Encounters Stat an NPC.

Free RPG Day 2021 – What’s On Offer?

I am running Vast Grimm for my shop. Its Mork Borg sci fi. I had my pick of the litter on which to run but I chose it because it was the thinnest book in the lot. I already have too much on my plate. I am disappointed no one will be running Root at my shop as I wanted in that. What happened to...

The COWBOY BEBOP RPG Is Coming Next Year

We liked d20 Star Wars a bit but never got another one of those d20 games off the ground. What happened back then still colors my feelings on all these IP games now but then I bought Alien and it has changed my mind a bit. I held back from buying Dune but it is so tempting as well.

The COWBOY BEBOP RPG Is Coming Next Year

I totally agree that this approach would be better and it was how the wave of licensed RPGs worked out in the 90s. Games like BESM had a lot of books and of course d20 OGL explosion. Many of those products were not very good to be honest. The Trigun d20 book is a good example on how not to do...

The COWBOY BEBOP RPG Is Coming Next Year

I have run a Cowboy Bebop game in the past. We started with the Bounty Head Bebeop rules and they didn't work for us. nWoD is a good system you can do anything with so we remade characters and finished out the campaign with those rules and some added stuff from Wold of Darkness Mirrors that has...

D&D General Who should roll the dice... in combat.

For some games I take away all rolling for players. It is a method to make combat more story driven. No one ever complained and I would not do this for all games but I recommend trying it out. As a GM you may find it drives you to doing more descriptive rather than just saying. "Hit. Roll Damage."

Oh yeah. I forgot that Soldier was in this world. Good looking out. This game will sit nicely along side my old Bubblegum Crisis books.

Worlds of Design: Game Design vs. Story Framework

It think of history for the howebrew worlds I have created as window dressing. There isn't all that much behind it but its there to give the illusion of depth (which is what Tolkien wrote all those histories for in the first place). I use history a lot when I create game, whether playing in my...

RPG Print News – Chaosium, Arc Dream, Osprey, and More

Romance of the Perilous Lands is very cool. The author has a great blog and has made a ton of fun rules lite games. Trollish Delver I love Burrows & Badgers. The miniatures are fantastic and the game rules are very unique with a setting that is just strait up Redwall.
