Looking for a non-D&D high fantasy roleplaying system

What about Mage, Dark Ages? I think it's one of the most engaging, creative magic systems out there, and you can use Bygone Bestiery to do all kinds of different races... of course, I'm pretty sure those are both out of print... But they're great games!

    Percentile Systems? Just Say No!

Thanks, I'll give Basic a look. I was actually going even more literal than that: you roll 50 on d%, and you've accomplished 50% of your task; you roll 68% and you've accomplished 100% of your task. Problem is, that would be such a random system, I can't think of how you would do it with any...

Looking for adventure/plot ideas for a single player assassin.

I think you're right: use it sparingly. And I wouldn't take a lot of time with it when you do. It's a different way to introduce a scene but if you use it too much or for too long it would lose its effectiveness.

    Percentile Systems? Just Say No!

And I just realized I shouldn't read these posts on my phone because sometimes I miss what people are saying and repeat them. HOURS LATER.

    Percentile Systems? Just Say No!

MERP uses d% and has both classes and levels. I assume Rolemaster does, too since that is what MERP is based on.

Looking for adventure/plot ideas for a single player assassin.

An idea I've toyed with, but never got far with, was to have players play some of the NPCs. I think for a solo game this could be very cool. If your player's target is a person of some import, have him first play the part of the target's butler going about some mundane issues, dealing with the...

    Percentile Systems? Just Say No!

I've always wanted to see some kind of system that uses percentile in its literal terms: 100% equals 100%, you've completely accomplished your goal. I don't know if it's possible, but if someone said they had put something like that together, I would want to check it out.

    The Thrills of Skills

I've been thinking a lot about skills recently. I'm working on a system in which the players give marks to the obstacles. It could be marks of bleeding (vs goblins) or progress (vs difficult terrain); there are nine kinds of marks total, three physical, three social, and three based on the...

The 7-Day RPG Contest [Voting is over!]

Well, OK, but should you really be telling us before revealing the final results? If it's me ... I'm not sure I would want folks to vote for me just because no one else had.

    Can the GM cheat?

I think you have your answer there. If you believe that being above board isn't cheating, that seems to imply that not being so IS cheating. This thread shows pretty clearly that we all have our own "codes" that we follow. And so "yes," there CAN be mischeif when treating players differently...

    Can the GM cheat?

I know I'm weighing in late in the game, but I think an important element is that the players need to feel like you, the GM, are on their side. I have been in very adversarial games and they are no fun. But when I'm playing a game and I feel like the GM and players are telling the same story...

The 7-Day RPG Contest [Voting is over!]

I've read many of the entries and there are some great games here! I would offer another plug for Heights of Etherian, but I would rather just say: "It was a great fun putting together an rpg in a few days. I love the setting of class (as in Have's and Have Not's) based strife, warring...
