    D&D 5E An Expert-Level Hoard

"If characters have a chance to paw through the piles [of treasure] and keep what they find, they get...[coins, gems], and a potion of greater healing. Alternatively, you can create your own expert-level hoard" (Hoard of the Dragon Queen, page 53). Clearly, this is one of the many terminologies...

D&D 5E Most common saving throws?

Here's my breakdown: Con, Dex, and Wis saves correlate pretty strongly to where Fortitude, Reflex, and Will saves were in 3.x and 4e, making them the most common saves. Strength saves seem to be the next most common, usually to resist forced movement. Intelligence saves are almost exclusively...

Want An RPG Writing Contract With Paizo? RPG Superstar Is Back!

This year has been my first exposure to RPG Superstar. I'm a solid writer and I love designing for D&D-style RPGs. I've never played Pathfinder, but I got my start in the hobby by DMing 3.5e for the better part of three years. I'm currently devouring Pathfinder PDFs (it's a pretty cunning plan...

    D&D 5E Full preview unlocked!

This whole book looks marvelous. I'm especially intrigued about "Rewards at 20th level."

We've seen rings of protection BEFORE they were finalized.

D&D 5E I'm writing an adventure, what should I know first?

Thanks so much for your advice. I'm still fleshing out the skeleton of this adventure, but I do know one thing for certain. This is going to be a 'free fan creation.' I'm going to make this one for the community and as a potential resume builder or free sample of my work to display when I create...

    D&D 5E Druid Shape Forms

Higher level druids need to judge when to use their resources carefully. This limiting of options for druids is purposeful. If a druid always had the right choice for wild shape, they'd have a game-breaking level of utility and power before they even touched their spells.

D&D 5E Woo Hoo, Invisibility Stopped It's Downward Spiral

I feel that stealth should trump invisibility, but only where the searchers have reason to believe that they are facing an invisible foe. If they can pass an intelligence check of some kind, or they have dealt with magic users before, then they should start investigating for invisible intruders...

D&D 5E I'm writing an adventure, what should I know first?

I've been kicking around the idea of trying to get into freelance publishing for a while. I've also had an idea for an adventure that straddles the line between old-school adventures—like Village of Hommlet and Against the Cult of the Reptile God—and new-school story games. I want to take the...

D&D 5E Seeds inspired by Monster Manual

I never knew I wanted to play Asimov's D&D before now!

D&D 5E Anyone ever try playing with just 9's and 10's?

I've always liked the "normal person" angle, but I feel like that game would be way too swingy. With no die modifiers (or only negative ones), it becomes a very luck-based game.

D&D 5E Campaign Concept (Feedback Welcome!)

Your ideas sound wonderful, but I think you might be overplanning. You've been gaming for a while, so you know that no plan survives after contact with PCs. I would plan only your hook (the baby) and the villains (aboleths) and have the plot unfold from their natural motivations. Trying to...

Good Wizards Play Store in Seattle

I second Green Lake Games (around 76th and Aurora Ave) and Card Kingdom (in Ballard). Both are great stores, though Card Kingdom definitely feels more high end, and has a much larger space to do business. I've volunteered at Green Lake before, and the staff is very friendly.

D&D 5E DMG release date pushed back

This new Modron art gives me a delightfully DiTerlizzi vibe. I love it.
