D&D 5E 5e completely nerfed charm - for YOU, anyway

For a wizard, they're non-spells really, I've never cast them and I've never seen anybody else cast them either. Maybe they're a bit better for other casters who don't have vastly superior spells of the equivalent level? Sadly, charm and dominate effects were a bit too good in previous editions...

Is TOMB OF HORRORS the Worst Adventure Of All Time?

The adventure is not for new DMs who do everything by the book. Unless, of course, it's just played on a lark using expendable characters.

CURSE OF STRAHD: Here's The Official Announcement & Cover Image!

Here's a podcast with Perkins and Hickman discussing Curse of Strahd a bit.

[UPDATED AGAIN!] CURSE OF STRAHD Will Be Available March 15th

I'm unnaturally optimistic! Fleshing out the Barovian domain with some of the Hickman's home-brew may turn out really neat. The original I6:Ravenloft and I3-I5: Desert of Desolation were great adventures. Though, I10:The House on Gryphon Hill, wasn't one of my favorites, so a little caution...

D&D 5E This is the full set of 54 Tarokka cards!

I hate to be the only person who notices, but does the 6 of Swords (Berserker) only have 4 blades present?

    D&D 5E Storm Sphere (5E) value?

It's good, but it holds your concentration slot hostage unfortunately.

[UPDATED AGAIN!] CURSE OF STRAHD Will Be Available March 15th

Yeah, called it months ago, in one Ravenloft thread I remember.

D&D 5E Where can I find Informaion on 5E Potions?

I suppose when crafting potions not present in the DMG, the DM needs to make the call whether a potion reproducing a 'concentration effect' requires concentration or not. Frankly, I'd rather craft the version not requiring concentration.

D&D 5E Where can I find Informaion on 5E Potions?

I wonder why the potion of speed, gaseous form, and enlarge/reduce potions specifically call out that concentration is not required, if that's the case?

    D&D 5E Would you change a monster's hit points mid-fight?

No, more health is the last thing most 5E monsters need.

D&D 5E Where can I find Informaion on 5E Potions?

Just to ward away confusion, potions require an action to use and the potion of invisibility requires concentration, as (no concentration required) is not listed within its description. But, yes, crafting cost and time required is rather prohibitive. Maybe if the PCs have too much gold and too...

D&D 5E Ditching concentration - did you do it?

For those that also leave out the Con check due to damage, have you had a 10th level Conjurer yet? Focused Conjuration (PHB p. 116) prevents the conjurer from losing concentration on conjuration spells due to taking damage. If so, what did you put in place of that ability?

D&D 5E Ditching concentration - did you do it?

We don't use the concentration check on damage. With so few spell slots, and having only one concentration spell ongoing at a time, the rule seems limiting enough really.

It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like RAVENLOFT

The Domain Lords manage their domains, providing a stability of sorts, to certain ends anyway. For Strahd, Barovia's population is the source of his lost love Tatiana, who's is reincarnated every generation. The 'weekend in hell approach' sadly gives the impression that it's a setting purely for...

It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like RAVENLOFT

In the 3.5 Expedition to Castle Ravenloft, one suggestion was to place the castle in Damara. That would suck, but I wouldn't rule it out. They also suggest placement for Eberron and D20 Modern, which would be even worse than Damara. Crawford stated in a recent interview that the next big thing...

    D&D 5E Circle of Death?

Indeed, sadly, 5e's version of the classic Death Spell is but a shadow of its previous incarnations.

    D&D 5E Increasing spell power

While I can appreciate that a paralyzed target is in for a world of pain if you've a couple of melee fighters nearby, I stay away from the recurring save spells, if all possible. At higher DCs they're much better though, many will stick for a round or maybe two. With respect to 2nd level spells...

My Sword Coast Legends First Impressions

I hate to disappoint you, but the Necromancy 'tree' is not open to PCs. One of the NPC companions has access to the tree however, it replaces the NPC's 'Frost' tree in the wizard class ability trees. They've got an Arcane, Fire, Lightning, Frost, Summoner, and Manipulator tree that you can...
