I think the real issue with any edition war is that value judgments are made about the people based on what given flavor of DUNGEONS & DRAGONS they play. I - speaking for myself, just me, all alone, not painting with a broad brush* - saw that leveled at people who stuck with 2nd and 1st edition...

There's a freeware one on Dragonsfoot; there's one put out by SSI (and a monster/encounter builder, too) that are abandonware.

I'd buy that if WotC hadn't spent so long pushing the digital initiative for 4e so hard. They seem hellbent on living or dying by it and making everyone aware of it. Suddenly not being able to use a big, big chunk of it (your books, purchaseable as PDF) is going to affect everyone. Sure...

I most certainly would not. I don't buy from "company" stores to begin with, to be locked into one hitched to a company apparently as capricious as WotC has become would be a dangerous way to spend my money, to wit: me: Hey I want a digital copy of the FIEND FOLIO. wotc: Here you go, $x.99...
