D&D General How many air-blown waterskins are needed, if wearing metal armors, to prevent sinking in water?

Good point. I'll rephrase, "The air inside a bag of holding is not in the same dimensional context as its outside and, because it does not displace water, I'd say no," Reference is made to Bag of Holding in descriptions of items like Portable Hole. "Placing a portable hole inside an...

D&D 5E Would appreciate any input on a homebrew feat - Wild Shape Adept

Another option that could appeal to me would be to say that a wild shaped druid could, as a bonus action, turn into a different wild shape but at one cr level lower than their wildshape maximum and that they could change form a number of times equal to their druid level. This could permit...

D&D 5E Would appreciate any input on a homebrew feat - Wild Shape Adept

I think three instead of two wild shapes per short rest could work but perhaps without the wisdom +1. With the options presented, restricting to cr 0 looks fine but I don't know why the size is restricted to tiny. If anything it could be easier for a druid to turn into a creature their size or...

D&D General How many air-blown waterskins are needed, if wearing metal armors, to prevent sinking in water?

That's just awesome!! Are there any other penalties that may be entertainingly given to a swimmer in, say, chainmail, buoyed by 12 skin balloons??

D&D General How many air-blown waterskins are needed, if wearing metal armors, to prevent sinking in water?

The air inside a bag of holding would be on a different plane of existence so I'd say no. However, an "empty" bag of holding might be considered to contain 64 square feet of air and, underwater, if you could catch the air (and fill the bag with something like water) then that would provide...

D&D 5E How many feats is a 5e level worth?

I find that for spell casters, getting to 7th level and getting 4th level spells is pretty loaded. Many level progressions can be greatly valuable.

D&D General Spear: d8; versatile d10, and when used two-handed, can be lunged one-handed (d8) with reach.

Swords, I'd have thought, were the most intuitive (and simple) of weapons to initially get to grips with. A sword is balanced and natural and better suited for someone to defend themselves than a dagger or hand axe, mace or (at a greater extreme) sickle. I mean, which weapon would you find...

D&D 5E How many feats is a 5e level worth?

Looking into that in a bit more detail, a one-level, multiclass dip into wizard would give: 3 cantrips, (acquisition of a spellbook containing 6 spells written in magical ink?) 2 1st-level spell slots (or one level's worth of full caster progression in spell slots), Ritual Casting ability...

D&D General How many air-blown waterskins are needed, if wearing metal armors, to prevent sinking in water?

That's pretty spot on for 5e chainmail for which 12 waterskins would be needed. calcs: A 5e waterskin is described to be able to contain 4 pints of liquid. If that liquid was water it would weigh 4.16 lb (1.89kg). If the content was air and the skin was in water, it could support 4.16 lb...

    D&D 5E 5E Survivor - Weapons

But I'd have thought that spikes, even on a club, would have still been better against armour than using a bladed weapon.

That's perfect for a 5e mechanic and a typical player economy.

D&D 5E How many feats is a 5e level worth?

Different class features (even without considerations of PB, and HP/ HD plus spell caster slots) vary in value. For instance, Fighter 2 gives Action Surge but later on, there's just the less valued indomitable.

With thanks for all the valuable comments, I've just added a take three to the OP: Spear (when used with Martial training): two-handed, d10 piercing or d6 bludgeoning, or, one-handed (though still with two hands remaining available for spear use), d8 piercing with reach?

I gladly accept that the sword and shield is a very underpowered combination in 5e. (I've used it but haven't seen it widely used elsewhere). In this case though, the spear wielder might do better to drop the shield and gain better control and reach with their weapon.

I'm yet to see your conjecture tested. Even with sword-trained, hema participants, spears generally proved to perform better. We don't want theory, we want "science" and, so far, the evidence, even with reference to it's nearest competitors, favours spears.

True. I was replying to: My comment that with a spear: stands. That sharp and slender "lump" of metal isn't relatively so big. Have you seen the 7lb great axe in 5e?
