Is the Split a Bad Thing?

I don't know if it's actually a good game or not, but Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay is newish and innovating. The burning wheel games seem pretty popular. I hear many people talk about Fate. Are all of these terrible games?

Luckily for me, my boss was the DM.

    Ashamed of being a Gamer?

I don't mind talking about being a gamer. However, I don't own any wolf t-shirts.

Is the Split a Bad Thing?

The best thing I can say about D&D Next is it's made me want to look at different RPG systems and alternatives to 20 sided dice. This is probably a good thing.

Adapting a video game concept to D&DN

Why D&D? And by the question I mean, if you don't like classes, why not try a different RPG that doesn't have classes? There are several out there.

    Individuality and Teamwork in D&D

Generally speaking, D&D is a team game. That's one reason we have classes to begin with. Combined arms strategy. If 3e became the individual edition, which it probably did considering the prevalence of multi-classing and "make other classes redundant" spells, it was by accident.

Need a good name for a band of orcs

Gornok's Wolf Riders (also, they must ride wolves)

Social Skills, starting to bug me.

I am not the most eloquent speaker in the world but I still hate social skills. I may not be able to slay a group of orcs in real life using a longsword but I can form complete sentences. Dice are a good way to abstract the former but not the later.

    D&D 5E Should 5E have Healing Surges?

Surges put a limit on healing. Without them HP really do go up and down like a yo-yo. You can have basically infinite healing due to wands and potions (as long as you've got enough brains to spend your gold on such things). With surges, once they're gone, you're done. You're not getting healed...

    Detect Evil => Detect Corruption

I hate magic replacing the role of detective work. Keep the detect spells out. If you want to know if someone is up to something, spy on them, ask around town, whatever. Don't replace that with a magic spell.

You Scored as Butt-KickerYou like a streightforward combat character. After a long day at the office, you want to clobber foes and once more prove your superiority over all who would challenge you...

What's your favorite edition of D&D (so far)?

Nostalgia runs strong in this poll.

    Switching from fantasy to scifi

Our DM in D&D 4e sent us through a portal to the Marvel Universe and we became Super Heroes. Same "crunch" abilities as our D&D characters but re-imagined "fluff" (my great axe turned into wolverine's claws but same damage, to-hit, etc...). It worked much better than I expected and was tons of...

    Is math a flaw?

Just trying to avoid tunnel-vision. I'm tired of reading threads like the OP saying "Hey guys, I've got an idea for an RPG. The mechanics are almost exactly like d20 but I've improved it by using d100! That's like 5x the power!" RPGs are competitive between the Player's characters and the DM's...

    Is math a flaw?

Of course not, but if you're going to make just another dice game why not take one of the RPG systems already on the market and make new character classes and/or scenarios instead of rewriting everything from scratch? First of all, if you take criticism of game design as criticism of you...

D&D 5E So why are you buying 5th edition?

Even if I think I'll hate it, I'll probably buy the PHB anyway just to check it out and see if there are any ideas worth using.

    Is math a flaw?

This is the problem. The belief that there are only 2 viable mechanics to an RPG. I used to think that cards had no place in a war game. Then I played Fortress America. We need creativity in game design, not just another variant of already published material.

    Is math a flaw?

The main problem I see with most RPGs is they're too focused on adding and subtracting numbers from some other numbers. If the game has more math than RISK you should probably go back to the drawing board. Unless you're designing a CPRG, in which case feel free to go crazy with the math but keep...

D&D 5E Which of these settings do you want to see for D&D Next?

Marvel Universe. It will show whether or not the game is adaptable across genres.

In Defence of D&D: The "Good Enough" System

D&D was always broken. Let's keep it that way! (that was sarcasm in case you couldn't tell)
