D&D 5E 'Game of Thrones' fans: what kind of weapon does Oberyn use?

Very good point! I honestly have no idea why the spear in DnD isn't finesse-based, given that several of the oldest martial arts using it are the epitome of finesse...

D&D 5E 'Game of Thrones' fans: what kind of weapon does Oberyn use?

You can still approximate it with the in-game spear. Just never throw the spear. The key to that is the "versatile" property the DnD spear has. That allows you to wield it as a two-handed melee weapon. It would be vastly better if they added long spears back to the game, though. Also, why is...

D&D 5E 'Game of Thrones' fans: what kind of weapon does Oberyn use?

Most spears were not thrown; that's actually why the javelin was invented. Also, spears reaching eight feet wasn't that uncommon and they were definitely not throwable. It was definitely a spear he was using, given both the design of the weapon and the specific fighting style he had to learn...

D&D 5E T1: The Village of Hommlet (IC)

[roll0] It isn't going to be her best performance, but she doesn't intend to do the kind of performance she normally saves for a less conservative space. "A long time ago, a questing knight journeyed the lands with a lovely sorceress and a priest ever devout. They journeyed the land far and...

    D&D 5E Loss of genericity

It's very easy to reflavor a lot of these classes and abilities to fit in with a homebrew setting. I don't think it's necessarily that much of a problem. Now, it might be with subclasses to come later, depending.

    D&D 5E What is Over-Powered?

You really are saying that to the wrong person, given the entirety of your post. Honestly, if I pulled off a hat trick of it, you managed to be the dictionary definition. That would be nice... except that I at no time claimed that you shouldn't be able to maintain your main schtick or make it...

D&D 5E Kickstart Dragon Magazine or any other rpg type magazine?

Kickstarter adds an additional complication that reputation comes into play. WotC probably could never Kickstarter magazines because of their current rep in handling things like that. Morrus could probably do it with ease, though.

    D&D 5E What is Over-Powered?

No, it shouldn't. What it should do is focus on the druid's other abilities that give them increased tactical choices so that they still have options when their main focus fails to be of use. Otherwise, you have the one-trick-pony problem that made the Monk a bad class in 3E.

D&D 5E New DM let Player Die, now what?

I handle it the way my group has always handled it: Things happen. PCs die on occasion. You make a new character and move on. In this case, the PC made a dumb move and died. Everyone in my group has done that at some point. Including me when I wasn't DMing. It happens. Honestly, even with the...

D&D 5E 'Game of Thrones' fans: what kind of weapon does Oberyn use?

It's a spear. Would be a longspear for DnD. The actor revealed in an interview that they had a martial artist give him a couple weeks training in spearfighting as prep for that episode.

    Shadowrun newbie (sort of) question

There's a couple of good reasons as to why SR5E has such of a slow publication standard right now. The first is quality control; Catalyst ran into some quality control issues with publishing books a few months back and has slowed down their publication schedule to address that across the board...

D&D 5E What, exactly, does a Mimic look like in its natural state?

They look like chests with teeth, eyes and tentacle-like legs. Most of the time, when adventurers encounter such chests, they're waking a sleeping mimic.

    Shadowrun newbie (sort of) question

Um... I'm also a Shadowrun player, but I personally would never characterize the game as easy to learn no matter the edition. There's always a learning curve involved. That said, the newest edition is the one currently supported, and its rules seem to be a bit less confusing than prior...

D&D 5E Things 5E has taught you about your playstyle.

I remember some of the rather horrible 3E and Pathfinder rules interpretation wars. So, so much hate unleashed in those... I'm hoping that 5E avoids most of that.
