New Unearthed Arcana Released, With 8 New Forgotten Realms-Themed Subclasses

Can't agree thanks to the OTT light armour - and it doesn't feel at all like a driving oath in the way the other oaths do. Spellfire sorcery is honestly fine - and looks like a good functional alternative to the doesn't-work-in-actual-play Divine Soul Sorcerer especially if you think opening up...

New Unearthed Arcana Released, With 8 New Forgotten Realms-Themed Subclasses

My pet hate is the "Noble Genie Paladin". Genies aren't ideals, they are patrons - warlock style. Which isn't to say you can't do an Oath of Fealty (we already have Oath of the Crown). But the tenets are kinda random and the +Cha in light armour mechanic is not it.

New Unearthed Arcana Released, With 8 New Forgotten Realms-Themed Subclasses

There is nothing more wrong with "The Order of the Purple Dragon" than "The Order of the Red Lion" in the lore. However. Making the Order of the Purple Dragon one of only five subclasses for the entire fighter class currently in D&D 2024 or even one of only ten (and I think only four when it...

New Unearthed Arcana Released, With 8 New Forgotten Realms-Themed Subclasses

The thing is what the PDK invites greater exploration into is other, more interesting settings. Ones which don't promise interesting things and then deliver the banal that doesn't live up to the billing. The Knights of the Purple Dragon are fine as a part of the lore, no more remarkable than...

    D&D 5E 4E Cosmology

5e "practical cosmology" is 4e cosmology with a coat of Great Wheel paint and a different 2d projection of an at least 4d space (and no 2d projection of 4d measures up). The Feywild and Shadowfell are precisely where you would expect and are the important two. The Elemental Planes float within...

    D&D (2024) Melee warlock build in 2024

I can't see what your Invocations are there. Also you seem to have a Cha of 14 for a warlock? (I also don't rate Eldritch Smite; Armour of Agathys does about as much damage and gives you temp hp). And the Jump At Will invocation is awesome.

D&D General Which published TTRPG settings do each D&D ancestry best?

Is Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay a legitimate answer for halflings, dwarves, and high, dark, and wood elves? (Old school WFRP at that in many cases - especially for humans) If not, and counting the Nentir Vale/PoLand as not detailed enough it's going to be Eberron or Exandria in almost every case.

D&D Releases Playtest for Updated Artificer

If only. The current version is going to be making Enspelled Weapons and Enspelled Armour. Oh, and wands. Can't forget the wands. I want a mad scientist subclass - wonderous item creator and leans hard into the new Quirk rules. And instead of plans have a "Doesn't repeat" rule.

D&D Releases Playtest for Updated Artificer

Only for the battle smith IIRC (and that was one of the mistaken and probable accidental changes). The armourer can use their arcane armour as a focus instead, and the alchemist and artillerist aren't weapon wielders anyway unless you count the Arcane Firearm as a weapon. Agreed. But it's more...

D&D Releases Playtest for Updated Artificer

Half casters are annoying enough! I'd sooner Pact magic for artificers.

Nice! And then you add dual wielder for a second club attack.

D&D Releases Playtest for Updated Artificer

I object thrice over. First why are you wasting a Mass Healing Word on just two people? Second the alchemist has a subclass but the cleric doesn't. If we want hardcore bonus action healing we clearly want a Life Cleric. Third healing word has a 60' range; giving someone a potion doesn't so you...

Just to clarify Thirsting Blade Prerequisite: 5th level, Pact of the Blade feature You gain the Extra Attack feature for your pact weapon only. With that feature, you can attack twice with the weapon instead of once when you take the Attack action on your turn. Thirsting Blade only works with...

How are you getting two attacks? Warlocks (which this conversation is about) don't get extra attack without Pact of the Blade - in which case you have better weapons than sticks. And the cantrip itself can combo with extra attack but can't grant it.

The sorcerer's thing at low levels is oodles of cantrips (five I think). There's a lot of utility there. Of course Tomelocks at low level can take on wizards with rituals (you only need Find Familiar once and can flex what you know) and sorcerers with cantrips at the same time.

D&D (2024) Best and Worst Classes Lvl 1-10.

The problem with the entire "how good is PAM" question is that it's something that's almost entirely dependent on the local meta and what tactics your DM uses. The bonus action attack is dependent on what else you would get a bonus action attack for, and the GWM bonus action attack is just...

D&D Releases Playtest for Updated Artificer

Agreed. Needs to go in the feedback. Also needs to go in the feedback, along with the idea that you can use an actual firearm as an arcane firearm (and possibly even get weapon rules if you make your own). Mr "ten fireballs per day at level 11" scales just fine. They just don't have an...

D&D Releases Playtest for Updated Artificer

If you're using your bonus action to heal then, before level 9, you're basically equivalent to a cleric casting a damaging cantrip and casting Healing Word (or Shield of Faith). Even here you don't exactly compare well to the cleric when the cleric does what you do. Of course there's the level...

D&D (2024) Best and Worst Classes Lvl 1-10.

What's wrong with True Strike for melee? Before level 5 it's better than Eldritch Blast anyway - and from level 5+ that extra 1d6 damage means it outdamages Shillelagh. And there are definite power curves - for example at levels 1-2 I'd call wizards and sorcerers the worst and warlocks the...

D&D Releases Playtest for Updated Artificer

The key problem with this is that Alchemical Savant (and it's a far bigger problem for the Alchemist than the Artillerist) is the artificer version of the cleric Potent Spellcasting. And yes it applies to non-cantrips, but you're multiple spell levels behind the cleric.
