    D&D General Rebuilding a new monk (+)

I am a little iffy on the boxer/brawler archetype. While it seems like it should fit with the monk class, It seems like the monk wants to "pop the top off" of what a normal human can achieve physically, while a Boxer/Brawler wants to be down to earth. a "low magic" monk without the arrow...

D&D (2024) Introducing back 2/3 casters and leaving clerics and wizards as only "full" casters?

I think clerics should maybe be a 2/3 caster, and introduce a priest class that is a full caster/no armor divine caster.

D&D (2024) The Half Orc. Are they still needed?

I think this is an important point. And I think what it speaks to is a need for D&D races to become more interchangeable, allowing for halfling/elves and dwarf/tieflings and such without saying "just pick one and use it"

D&D 5E Water Walk on the Elemental Plane of Water

So if you look up from the Isle of dread, rather than sky you would see a big dome of ice overhead?

D&D 5E Water Walk on the Elemental Plane of Water

Possibly. "Magic" is always a valid explanation, and probably the only one that will be perfectly consistent. Alternately, you might treat the spell as giving you perfect buoyancy. The spell doesn't "know" which way the surface is any more than a bubble does.

Bands with hit singles that were not hit singles

This song was one of my favorites growing up in the 90's. Blue Moon Ghetto was local to where I lived, and the female vocalist on the song was a local radio personality, Nikki Boulay. I don't know if they deserved to hit it bigger, But I think many people wondered what could have been.

D&D 5E Which common monsters/creature types do you exclude from your campaigns?

I always thought it would be neat to have a proper aquatic adventure setting, with undersea cities, dungeons and things and see the aquatic races from their own perspectives- where humans and the rest are all just the "people who live on the other side of the waves" whose ships occasionally fall...

    D&D 5E Freyja’s tears - Anyone played it?

It's probably too late, but I purchased it for similar reasons and IIRC it's pretty thin on the norse theme.

    D&D 5E 2ThreadsMeet - What Norse-ish deities would you add to 5e... if copyright wasn't a thing?

I haven't heard of the Norse Deities referred to as nature beings, but one way they do differ from the Greek deities is that they aren't actually the Gods "OF" anything. You might associate Thor with thunder and lightning, sure, but he isn't the God of Thunder and Lightning the same way that...

    D&D 5E 2ThreadsMeet - What Norse-ish deities would you add to 5e... if copyright wasn't a thing?

I always thought the character of Hod/Hodur was interesting. So in the story he is tricked by Loki to throw a dart of mistletoe (sometimes it is a spear or an arrow) at his brother Baldur, who happened to be invincible to everything but mistletoe. It is also noted that Hodur is blind, and has...

D&D General Al-Qadim, Campaign Guide: Zakhara, and Cultural Sensitivity

You don't think concerns like these have anything to do with how well a product performs it's intended purpose? Are you not interested in these things alienating audiences, or how products like these might serve as a vehicle for perpetuating prejudicial attitudes and images?

D&D General Al-Qadim, Campaign Guide: Zakhara, and Cultural Sensitivity

I think it's wise to consult experts and people with actual, lived-in experience to help them get a fuller perspective, so they can pass it on to their viewers.

D&D General Al-Qadim, Campaign Guide: Zakhara, and Cultural Sensitivity

Because it is a discussion of Orientalism. Orientalism focuses on cultural differences at the expense of similarities. Harems, opium dens and genies are examples of these differences that could have been shoehorned in. The unnecessary inclusion of/ exaggeration of these differences of creates a...

D&D General Al-Qadim, Campaign Guide: Zakhara, and Cultural Sensitivity

Not what he said. And I don't really understand your position of why every board game depicting that time and place must include harems. What is this fixation on harems?

D&D General Al-Qadim, Campaign Guide: Zakhara, and Cultural Sensitivity

Okay. So when I posted this I kind of expected to see a reply like this. Remember that this is in the context of a discussion of Orientalism, and specific to the board game Istanbul. While he doesn't elaborate why he was glad he didn't see harems, opium dens and djinn in the board game, if we...

D&D General Al-Qadim, Campaign Guide: Zakhara, and Cultural Sensitivity

So, I keep thinking back to a board game review I watched from a channel called Shut Up and Sit Down on a game called Istanbul. During the review he takes a break to talk to his friend at university with a PHD in Sociology about Orientalism that I think might be useful here. (At the 11 minute...

D&D 5E How would you prefer Swashbuckling AC be handled

I think the choice between Dexterity-Based or Armor-Based defense should be the choice between high-risk/high-reward and predictable/reliability. A dex-based fighter should have a high miss chance, but when they get hit, they get hit hard. Whereas an armor-based fighter would get hit rather...

Spelljammer Monsters of Spelljammer (part 2)

I note some slight differences, though. The eggs are produced by the Great Old Master in the original, making it something like an insect queen. In MOM, The old neogi is turned into a "bloated mass of flesh" and eggs are laid on top of it, which is later consumed by the newborn Neogi.

Spelljammer Monsters of Spelljammer (part 2)

Great Old One- I wonder if we will see a rewrite, here. Typically when a group of organisms stab an organism for the purpose of reproduction, that fluid isn't... poison. Either that, or it has some rather lurid implications for PC's poisoned by neogi... Mercane- I have always known them as...
