    D&D Logo: Opinions?

Shoot, that would have been a good one.

So what do you think of it?

    LIfe Without Alignment

For the descriptive end of it they have a character's Virtue and Vice. I didn't mention it before because they don't actually describe a character's moral compass. (even though it sounds like they do.) Virtue and Vice are indeed descriptive traits that are unlikely to change throughout the story.

D&D 4E My compiled list of 4E's WoWisms

sample dragon fight: I wouldn't say this is borrowed from Onyxia. WoW and D&D are simply trying to capture the classic fantasy trope of the group of heroes fighting the deadly dragon. By giving the dragon all different kinds of actions, he is able to provide a good challenge against a group of...

    LIfe Without Alignment

WoD has an alignment system. It's called Morality, and it is a scale of 1 (Hitler) to 10 (Mother Theresa). Doing things that are considered lower than your current morality score drops it, with the added effect of possibly picking up some form of crazy on your way to lower depths of depravity...

    Stun/Paralysis effects

IMHO, D&D should be fun, period. Also, failure is actually not anethema to fun. I went to a hockey game a couple weeks ago (for the first time) and actually had a LOT of fun. Even though my team lost. Now, the thing is, obviously I didn't know whether my team was going to win or not. It...

POL Setting: Literacy automatic or no?

I, too find that annoying and a waste of time. I think illiteracy worked in Dark Sun because the assumption was that everyone was illiterate, with the exception of a special few, because being able to read was illegal, thus it mattered, and was actually kind of interesting when one of the...

    D&D 4E Angels in 4e: a possible future problem

I was born in 1980, and wasn't fully into D&D until I was a tweenager, but I still ended up having to explain to my open-minded mother that D&D was not satanic or evil. That whole debacle was really more infuriating than anything.

POL Setting: Literacy automatic or no?

As PoL is really just the basic assumptions that D&D makes, I expect that literacy will be the rule, and illiteracy will be the exception.

removing class & cross-class skills - convince me why this is a bad idea

I think an answer in 4e might be giving classes incentive to take and use the skills that should be integral to their class; while your fighter might take stealth, it is the rogue that gets abilities in his class to make maximum use of these skills. After all, it is the rogue that is supposed...

Shadowfell, and reworking of undead and afterlife

I agree with you on everything else... Animated skeletons and zombies should be morally abhorrent. In my gaming group characters typically react violently to this kind of undead, but we keep falling back on "you are desecrating the dead" excuse. It feels... weak. But yet we don't want to get...

    Currency in a POL setting

I wouldn't worry about it. If you want to get really technical, when you use gold as direct currency, the value of the gold coin is it's weight, not the fact that it was stamped by a government. According to D&D 1gp = 1/3oz of gold. If you found a coin that weighed 1oz, then by D&D standards...

What exactly is the deal with the 4th Edition?

What I expect out of D&DI isn't something like Halo or even Neverwinter Nights. I am thinking it is going to be more of a skeleton than a game in and of itself. A communication system, probably both text and vocal, a virtual gaming table with virtual miniatures (which Wizards can continue to...

    D&D 4E Reinvisioning the Halfling for 4E

I never minded the 2nd edition halfling. It was a little hard to find a reason for one to adventure, however; they don't adventure almost by definition. They like to stay home, where it is comfortable. While I am fine with the concept that every race of beings isn't prone to picking up a sword...

Large red dragon mini with only 5 fire resist...

The large size I believe is one of the least powerful dragons. Any smaller and you are talking wyrmlings. Resist fire 5 is appropriate IMHO. Could be higher, though.

D&D 4E 4e Heal info in new Confessions article

I agree completely. In most cases, PC death doesn't work at all to build suspense. It just drags everyone down. One player is unhappy, the rest are calculating in their heads how much gold it will cost to raise them, and who is paying for it, and how soon we can get the person left out of the...

    Damage types from DDM

Similes are acceptable in the English language, without exception. hehe. My dwarven warhammer makes sound like thunder when it hits. This spell makes a roar of thunder that rips into them. It is understandable that we are talking about a loud, booming sound in both. It may not be...

    Damage types from DDM

Eh, not when you have spells that have "sonic" in the name. And then when you have characters mention these things in character, it is annoying to stop and think of what your character would say instead of "sonic". So, like most players, you just shrug and keep playing. So why not just drop...

Good thing I disallowed those 20 dragon-exploding catapults last session. :p
