    Blog (A5E) Build A Stronghold

I should add, I really like the general concept, even without the full info. However the external grounds stuff confuses me. In particular, the Farm has a minimum size of 10,000 sq ft. Most of that is likely to be fields/pastures/etc. Is that purchased at 1 GP/2 sq ft, or 1 GP per 1 sq ft? Or...

    Blog (A5E) Build A Stronghold

I like the scaling much better than the original list (x10 every level), but I agree that the bottom end of the scaling could use some extra wiggle room. Currently the top end size for a house is 1000 sq ft. That's really rather small for a house. The average size of newly built 2-bedroom...

D&D General The Role and Purpose of Evil Gods

You might want to look up the more common usage for that acronym before jumping on it, because it tends to suggest things very different than Cthulhu and buddies. -- Also, while not having read the entire thread, my take on 'evil' gods (and gods in general) is that their domain is more a...

Blog (A5E) Meet Level Up's Dragonborn

Not sure about iOS, but the process I had to go through was: Click the link in the OP to the LevelUp site (but not the Kickstarter site) Click one of the images to bring it to primary focus (black background) (This seems to be where you're stuck?) Use the context menu to open the image in a...

Level Up (A5E) Monster preview thread!

Depends on if you want to allow the player group to escape from an encounter, take a break, and try again. If the creature recovers on a short rest, there's no gain from doing so. If it's limited to a long rest, the players have a chance to wear the creature down (even if HP is reset to full).

Level Up (A5E) Should AD&D5E remove simple/martial weapon category as exotic weapons were removed from 5E?

If I was trying to grapple with categorization, I'd go something like: Simple: Can be used without explicit training. A club, a club with a heavy end (mace or hammer), a dagger or knife, a hand axe, a big stick (quarterstaff or greatclub), a shortbow (doesn't take much strength), etc...

Level Up (A5E) Monster preview thread!

In the Jackalwere stat block, it has: It just reads really awkwardly. It's not a complete sentence, and it doesn't have a separator (like a colon) to mark the description (which isn't capitalized) as separate from the title. Similar for the Senses entry. Other entries seem to use a period at...

Level Up (A5E) Level Up's Downtime activities

Well, it's going by size, and it looks like the example for "small" is a prosthetic limb, which is hardly less complex than a pocket watch. I'm not sure what sort of cabinet is being suggested for the medium size, but my initial impression is that the "Engineering" table is for things which are...

Level Up (A5E) Level Up's Downtime activities

I think the issue here is not accounting for circumstantial bonuses. The master craftsman building a boat isn't working by himself; he's got a whole team of workers under him. He also has schematics and designs, likely of boats that have been successfully made before (ie: he's not creating...

Level Up (A5E) Magic Item Price List

Consumables vs Non-consumables What is the relative value of a consumable vs a non-consumable? Potions and scrolls vs rings and cloaks and swords? [common] potions: Potion of Healing (50): heal 2d4+2 HP Potion of Climbing (75): 1 hour of climb speed equal to walking speed, and advantage on...

Level Up (A5E) Magic Item Price List

Healing Potions When starting at 1st level, a healing potion seems terribly expensive. 50 GP for 4-10 points of healing? Basically, heals a single sword swing, and the action that you use to drink the potion means you probably just got hit by another sword swing, making the effort moot. On...

Level Up (A5E) Magic Item Price List

I had some meandering thoughts about weapon pricing, but the post was lost, so I'm going to just summarize instead. Armor: Looks reasonable, though the stuff in the 500 tier likely needs tweaking. Since a bunch of it is baseline armor which we don't have prices (I just pulled from the PHB)...

Level Up (A5E) Magic Item Price List

Continuing on the thoughts on weapon pricing: I forgot to account for two-weapon fighting. Boosting the cost of the +1 version of weapons from 500 to 1000 means the dual wielder needs to pay 2000 for a full upgrade instead of 1000. Now, this might be what they want, given that dual wielding...

First, a review of items that fall outside the 'expected' price range for their rarity. All but 2 [common] magic items are under 100 gold, and those two only cost 150. Nothing immediately obvious as out of place. Contract of Indentured Service at 150. New item. Seven-sided coin at 150. New...

Level Up (A5E) Magic Item Price List

"Split" is a misspelling of "Splint", a type of heavy armor. Both Splint and Full Plate have a base cost 25% below 'standard' for a given AC (eg: 1500 for AC 18, instead of 2000), presumably because there are some extra penalties that other armors don't have (eg: Half Plate costing 2000 for AC...

NB: These are my own thoughts, and the train of thought I've had that lead me to the conclusions that I reached, and isn't really an argument about the design, or even necessarily the train of logic the designers used or intended. Trying to simulate the economical value of the items is, I...

Level Up (A5E) Magic Item Price List

I had thought that there might be variations in rarity for (for example) a baseline full plate vs a +3 chain shirt, but it turns out that that's not the case. It seems rarity is set to also correspond to AC total (with appropriate Dex adjustments). For example, everything that costs about 2000...
