D&D General No More "Humans in Funny Hats": Racial Mechanics Should Determine Racial Cultures

Races like these only seem "modern" because you do not have a cultural context to put them in. In my Last Lands setting Gnolls, Serpent Folk, and Giffs are the children of Egyptian gods dwelling in a city-state based on a blend of Egyptian, Arab, and Persian folklore. Giffs are not space...

    D&D 5E 5e Psionics

What would need to be done to convert the psionic combat system from 2.0 with harbingers and constructs for later editions?

    D&D 5E 5e Psionics

If you have a campaign like Dark Sun where EVERYONE has psionics, then psionic combat added another level of strategy and made the game more cinematic. The interplay of harbingers and constructs vying for power was exciting. I really miss the 3-dimensional chess vibe of psionicists fighting in...

    D&D 5E 5e Psionics

I miss tangents and harbingers... :-(

D&D 5E Who are the current Archfey?

You could make an argument that the Celtic gods are archfeys, at least some of them, they are intimately connected.

D&D General Modrons should be terrifying

Like I said, ferocious, but there is no telling what one will do because they are random and chaotic. Resorting to violence right off the bat gets boring and does not reflect their full nature.

D&D General Modrons should be terrifying

Slaad are ferocious and wild, but not Evil. They should be just as likely to dance a jig, tell a Dad Joke, or offer genuine help to a party that encounters them as they are to attack.

SW Portland Adjacent Gamer Looking For A Group

Yeah, I've never heard of Gongaii Games, but I will check it out. I am on Meetup.com, too.

SW Portland Adjacent Gamer Looking For A Group

I'm not big on long commutes and do not have wheels under me at the moment. How far from Beaverton? Are you near a MAX station?

SW Portland Adjacent Gamer Looking For A Group

I live in Beaverton, near the Nike HQ, I am looking for a regular D&D game, any edition, somewhere near me, so Beaverton, Aloha, Hillsboro, or SW Portland. I don't do mornings. I may be open to other RPGs, tell me what you are playing. I'm fully vaccinated and I expect you to be as well. If you...

    D&D 5E Epic Monsters: Grendel's Mother

I'm not positive, but given that they live in a cave with an underwater entrance, I think Grendel and his mum may be able to breathe water...

    Mythological Figures: Beowulf (5E)

Not too shabby. So, what were Grendel and his mum in game terms? And how hard is it to actually rip a berk's arm off in the game?

D&D 5E Why do guns do so much damage?

Versatility it is a necessity in warfare. When you run out of bullets or your gun jams, it is, has been said, a very expensive club. But there are lots of circumstances where you want a mêlée weapon instead of a ranged weapon. If you are near flammable chemicals, the spark from a gun can be as...

D&D 5E Why do guns do so much damage?

And yet someone took the time to invent the bayonet, which turns your rifle into a more effective mêlée weapon by adding a short sword-like blade to it.

    D&D 5E Mythological Figures: Sir Lancelot (5E)

Launcelot was a Paladin until he fell from grace for his love of Guinevere. At that point he lost his Paladin abilities and became a normal Fighter. Later, to repent for his sins, he became a cleric.

D&D 3E/3.5 Creating an 3.5e version of the 5e Warlock class

Turning the eldritch blast into a cantrip really killed the warlock for me in 5E. It was way more versatile as a class feature. Restore that part of the class and the 5E version would be even better than the original.

D&D 3E/3.5 True Name Magic Items?

Okay, just dashing off some quick ideas... 1) Swords of Unmaking: made by the Bereft, anyone slain by one of these weapons cannot be resurrected without a being first bestowed a new truename. 2) Archer's Monocle: This crystal monocle engraved with the Archer's Eye utterance is worn over one eye...

    D&D General Filling the Gaps

What are some things you can do in real life that you think should be accounted for in the rules but are missing from the game? What do you see as gaps in the simulation that take you out of the immersion of gameplay, things there should be rules for but aren't?
