Is There Much Age Difference In Your RPGing Group?

Youngest is 20, the eldest is nearly 60.

Flash, I love you, but we only have fourteen hours to save the Earth!

I think the copyright still stands, held by Hearst Holdings instead of the original creator or his heirs. The Trademark (which, as you mention, is different) is also active, and - depending on actually what form of mark you are looking for - is held by Hearst Holdings or King Features...

Anyone else get their Trudvang chronicles? Mine arrived today.

It arrived, but haven’t read it yet. The slipcase was mangled in shipping, but the books themselves came through mostly intact (on book has a slightly bent corner).

Flash, I love you, but we only have fourteen hours to save the Earth!

That Fantasy Games Unlimited game was weird. There was like, no game there (but it did make a for a pretty cool little Mongo sourcebook).

Lord of the Rings TV Show Reboot

For The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit specifically, Christoher Tolkien has no say - Middle-earth Enterprises (Zaentz Company) holds the rights. Chris holds the rights (I think) to everything else his father wrote though.

Looking for a modern setting RPG

BRP? https://www.chaosium.com/basic-roleplaying/ Used in RuneQuest, Call of Cthulhu, Delta Green, StormBringer, SuperWorld, and others - including my favorite, The Laundry Files (http://cubicle7.co.uk/our-games/the-laundry/). Mer stuff to be found here...

    Journey to...The Caribbean

At least once, in any Pulp Adventure game that runs for more than a few sessions, the heroes will end up somewhere in the Caribbean. There's just too much potentially unusual stuff to not. btw, I'm seriously digging these "Journey to..." posts.

Superheroes are a hot commodity -- why aren't superhero RPG's?

It's not really as rough as you think. The system is EXTREMELY front loaded. Almost all of the complexity is in character creation. Once you have a character actual game play reasonably straightforward, and most of what you need to know is on the character sheet.

Looking for Group - Virginia Peninsula

Well, I've got a Champions game starting this Sunday - but the five hour drive might be a bit much. :p

Setting or System - whichever applies to you?

I'm with you here. Not a GURPS fan, but I love the GURPS settings books - particularly the licensed stuff. Well researched, and packed full of good stuff.

Setting or System - whichever applies to you?

Genre probably comes first for me (although the line between genre and setting can be pretty fine): I will look at any superhero or pulp adventure RPG. I will look at game product for Hero System, Ubiquity, or GUMSHOE (and eventually buy anything Hero System)

Can Hobby Stores Make Their Saving Throw?

While I agree with the statement, it flies in the face of customer perception. The near ubiquity of discounted online sellers (of everything) has caused a cognitize disconnect for many customers regarding MSRP. I look at the price of books on Amazon and when my mind wanders I do the math and...

Totally new to roll20 - how can it possibly work ..?

Ok. Just tested through my iPhone. It works better than expected (but I still wouldn't do it that way).

Totally new to roll20 - how can it possibly work ..?

Roll20 does support video. I've used it for games with larger than average player count. Things become dicey as the party size increases unless everyone if very cognizant of the platform. You have to learn to not talk over people. I've never tried using it through a mobile device (like a...

    Can I run 2nd edition AD&D content using 1st edition AD&D rules?

(Not quite thread necromancy. It's still the same calendar year) Psionics in xD&D always seemed weird to me. In 1st ed they were this odd bolt-on that just tipped the already precarious balance, and in 2nd ed they just became the class that didn't really fit into most fantasy settings (Dark...

Where are all the great spy RPGs?

Mercenaries, Spies and Private Eyes just hit DrivethruRPG. It uses a variant of the Tunnels & Trolls rules with a beefed up skill system.

My first trip to a FLGS in years: State of the Hobby?

The Amazon thing is kind of what I suspected - it is kind of the bane of game stores right now as its hard to compete with that deep of a price cut (and still pay your rent). I suppose its good that the pay for play thing is working for them, but based on what I've seen in my area it won't work...

Is it generating sales for the store?

My first trip to a FLGS in years: State of the Hobby?

What you describe sounds pretty typical of what I see in my town. Tabletop gaming is pretty much supported by board and card games - which is not really a bad thing, but becomes a disheartening if your primary interest is RPGs. When I last visited one of our local shops (two weeks ago) and...
