The swords bard really shines with one level of paladin or fighter to start. With that multiclass they are fantastic. The flourishes once you hit level 5 are plentiful and can make you a true frontliner with your defensive abilities to dodge tank.

The logical extreme that anyone who thinks there should be a few more classes and subclasses wants broken 3.5 back is what actually needs to go. Expecting people whose job is to design to you know actually design is not unreasonable
