He kind of sees places like these as Old Man Yells at Cloud. He interacts through Reddit, Twitter, Twitch, and youtube. Dedicated forums are kind of an old school idea now.

I think 3+proficiency bonus/2 would be appropriate. At high level you max out at 6, but this way you start with 4 and scale up to 6

You basically said what I was going to say. This design breaks so many design rules about floating modifiers in 5e. Making a class stat agnostic is a poor choice as it seems this design has no need for any stats really.

Protection fighting style at base would be thematic.

Well that is just completely busted. Every round for free the barbarian gets his full round of attacks, or the wizard just gets to cast another fireball.
