Well, there wouldn't be any point. They already write all the mechanics from scratch, they just use the SRDs for the names of spells, creatures, magic items, etc. Equally, there's no point in any of these mechanics being CC, they are the most un-copyrightable part of D&D. I mean, the SRDs were...

They still have DMs Guild which does exactly what they want without the OGL - full control over content, a very high cut, locking products into their platform. Basically a textbook predatory contract, but it seems to attract quite a high number of creators who just want to produce things for...

The fact that this red herring has derailed so many discussions about WotC's de facto licence-grab shows that it was clearly a good point with which to disguise their non-retraction.

My understanding is they've been working on this a while, and the WotC debacle has just accelerated things. The Dragonbane licence was already announced in the Kickstarter.
