"...the geekiest holiday of all...?" Geekier than Pi Day? Geekier than Star Wars Day? Geekier than Talk Like a Pirate Day?

Sean's Picks of the Week (1012-1016) - Steampunk, Alt-Rome, Card-Driven, Flatland, Sentient Twinkies

What do you think it means, psychologically, that I read this solely out of curiosity about sentient Twinkies?

D&D 5E The Official Poll! What THREE things do you like most about D&D 5th Edition?

I don't regard the magic system as a major innovation, although it is a nice synthesis of the pre-4E system with the better ideas from 4E.

D&D 5E The Official Poll! What THREE things do you like most about D&D 5th Edition?

I'm not particularly emotionally attached to old school, new school, or schools of anchovies for that matter. Old school was enough fun to pull me in back in the Middle Pleistocene, but there are a lot of more recent trends that I enjoy too.

D&D 5E The Official Poll! What THREE things do you like most about D&D 5th Edition?

I went with advantage/disadvantage, backgrounds, and simplicity. If class options/archetypes had been on the list, I would have chosen that over advantage/disadvantage (which for me is really a function of simplicity). With the class archetypes and backgrounds, I'm still debating with myself...

What's The Deal With D&D Translations?

Believing that it's funny doesn't mean it isn't a stereotype. Relax and try common courtesy on for size.

What's The Deal With D&D Translations?

If, as WotC has stated, the objective of the Basic Rules is to make D&D accessible to the greatest possible number of potential players, it really makes no sense at all to marginalize non-native-English speakers. Do we know that the buck (literally) stops with WotC, or is the problem here coming...

Here's the SWORD COAST ADVENTURER'S GUIDE!

If you're going to be so pedantically literal-minded, then please, please, please stay far away from the sacred texts of any and all religions.

FANTASY GROUNDS Goes 3D With TABLETOP CONNECT

I'm sure someone can say that, but they miss what I think are the two big selling points for tabletop: real social contact and options unlimited by software. There's a real, true middle ground here.

FANTASY GROUNDS Goes 3D With TABLETOP CONNECT

There's a very viable niche for gamers who prefer tabletop but aren't able to schedule in-person sessions. A VTT also has some value during a plain old tabletop session.

    The Geekification of Everything?

Considering that... All earlier attempts at a D&D movie have resembled a vampire (first they bit and then they sucked), and that... Fantasy movies on the whole have a long history of significant sucktitude... I think you stand a better than even chance of seeing that wish come true.

Release Cubicle 7 are proud to announce the release of the newest incarnation of The Doctor Who Roleplaying Game!

THE RAVEN'S CALL is a new 5E adventure from the company that brought you TYRANNY OF DRAGONS

That is not the likeliest conclusion one would draw from the way the statement is phrased. Jeez, dude!

THE RAVEN'S CALL is a new 5E adventure from the company that brought you TYRANNY OF DRAGONS

Not quite "new" - a Pathfinder version has been available for some time. In general, the Midgard stuff is worth the money, though.

    DriveThruRPG Hacked

I found no suspicious transactions on either of the two accounts I've used on DriveThru in the last month or so, but I cancelled both debit cards as a precaution. I don't see a lot of alternative for avoiding this kind of thing except to not save card information in the future. Inconvenient, but...

[UPDATED AGAIN!] SOUTHLANDS HEROES - New Character Options for D&D From The Folks Who Made TYRANNY O

Nothing strange about it. So far, the great majority of Midgard material has been Pathfinder-based, with a few appendices and supplements for 4E and 13th Age. This is the first 5E supplement of any kind, and it's entirely predictable that it would come in this form. I'm just glad to see 5E...

CITY OF BRASS Launches, Bringing You Web-Based Campaign Management

Well, I set up a 30-day trial just to check it out, and so far I like what I see. Nice, simple, elegant but versatile design. This would also be cheaper as a monthly subscription, but I want to play with it a little more.
