D&D 5E I just don't see why they even bothered with the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide.

I'm not sure if the change in population count and such for 3.0 applied to the Forgotten Realms, but I'll assume it correct. I consider basic d&d, rules adjustments for 3.5 and Essentials as major transitions. So to answer your question, Yes, and...

    Self Sacrifice? (In Character)

I really disagree with the readied action for this situation. I just don't like the idea of a PC sitting around doing nothing waiting for an attack that might not come. Worse, is the person might be perfectly fine when you end your turn, take multiple attacks and go down before your next turn...

D&D 5E Barbarians: Why Rage per Day?

They can only be angry so long before their emotionally bankrupted. However, I would think that an hour with their thoughts would be enough to turn a tiny spark of annoyance back into a burning fiery hatred.

D&D 5E I just don't see why they even bothered with the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide.

The transition to 2e, 4e and 5e, I believe, are the only editions that provide a story justification for mechanics and Class changes.

D&D 5E DM Quits The Game

Same here. I come from a situation where I would have five people show up one week, two people the next, and eight the following. It became a huge nightmare since I couldn't be sure if we were playing until start time. My friends did the opposite. When I was in college, my friends had a nerd...

D&D 5E Factions in your game

I had to think about this, but I actually use a lot of factions. I don't give every group of people associated with each other a title. Often times they are associated with the dominant personality or most talented person in the group. The names they do have usually are how they are referenced...

D&D 5E DM Quits The Game

I'm fairly rigid about start times for games. I usually wait up to 15 minutes for people to arrive and get started no later than 30 minutes from the scheduled start. I usually use some form of RSVP system, e.g., meetup.com or G+ (sans "Maybe"). My games have a cutoff time and require a minimum...

D&D 5E Average damage or rolled damage?

I prefer rolling damage. Even in 4e, I converted minions damage to dice rolls. I have never seen damage take a significant amount of time (the hit that seems to take all the time.) When it comes to hp, I'm a bit more cavalier. Most creatures have rolled hp; some creatures will have average...

    Self Sacrifice? (In Character)

I would have it cost a reaction. The attacker still makes all of their attacks against the targets AC, but your character takes any damage dealt. Alternatively, I would give the target 3/4 cover and misses due to cover damage your character. That means that they could still hit the target if...

D&D 5E Do you find Fantasy Grounds just too much of an investment?

I didn't find it to be worth the price. Having people using Macs, tablets, Androids, iPhones, desktops made it feel like a job. I didn't want to have to remove people from a game just cause I wanted to move to Roll20. Last time I attempted to use FG, it had too steep a learning curve for some...

D&D 5E Access to Races in a Campaign

I don't restrict races if I'm starting a new campaign. However, once it is started and we have defined the world I'm more inclined to restrict races to those that have been established.

    D&D 5E Warlord Name Poll

Since it is popular for D&D to reuse names, I'll follow suit. I like Ardent. I think that allows it to be vague on whether or not the power is supernatural since Ardent has been psionic. Also, the name isn't so particular about the source. It could be the character exuding strong emotions or has...

D&D 5E Why do you multiclass?

I don't know if it would be roleplaying reason, but I just wanted a Goliath warlock in heavy armor. I didn't really care if it made the character stronger/weaker; wasn't particularly important to his concept.

D&D 5E Refusing To Heal Party Members?

Dausuul I bet! Lanefan I could see the paladin wanting to attach himself to a group of "likely" criminals thinking they would eventually lead him to the culprit if they aren't the criminals themselves. If there is a band of adventures running around made up of numerous half-fiends, that could...

D&D 5E Refusing To Heal Party Members?

Some gaming groups enjoy having inter-party conflict. I think that meta-gaming and killing a PC that the paladin doesn't know to be guilty then changing character isn't a viable solution for every table. I think Zardnaar's handling of the situation is legitimate. That LG Paladin might suspect...

D&D 5E Advice wanted for DMing a new campaign

It is easier to keep up with an adventure once you've made it your own. I read the adventure and pick out the major plot items, that I find interesting. Then I write my own adventure based heavily off the campaign. I to keep to the spirit of the adventure, and maintain the major plot point.
