RPG Crowdfunding News – The City of Arches, 7th Sea, Kedamono Opera, and more

I didn't think I needed City of Arches, I've got piles of Planescape 2e PDFs and a heavy hardcover of Ptolus that I'll probably never run. The sample really changed my mind, this looks like a really great campaign source book.

Traveller Creator Marc Miller Passes Ownership To Mongoose

I thought it was amazing how the rights to Traveller reverted back to Marc Miller after GDW folded. Glad to see the transition to Mongoose appears to be just as peaceful. I never got to play classic Traveller, but Mongoose has been a good custodian of the licence so I hope this is a good start...

Magpie Games Announces Fallen London: The Roleplaying Game

I'm excited by this game, but I hope this doesn't translate into yet another PbtA-style game. Nothing wrong with that, except that it's pretty hard to make a product better than Blades in the Dark, and this sounds like Blades in the Dark...

Hidden Treasure from The Making of Original Dungeons & Dragons

I've been meaning to ask if any non-Americans have been having issues with Amazon and D&D books. My Amazon.ca copy is pending and unshipped, even though the store page says it's in stock? I haven't had any success with any WotC preorders since Random House stopped distributing their books.

PaizoCon 2024 Announcements and Product Reveals

The backer kit mentions Darkmoon Vale, but I don't know Golarion well enough. Possibly the Crown of the Kobold King being adapted? I really love the PACG, so I might back PFQ. Scratches a similar itch, hopefully.

Paizo Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous DLC Release Date Announced

The epilogue patched in to BG3 was so satisfying compared to the less than adequate initial ending. While Wrath of the Righteous has a pretty good stock ending, I'm pretty excited to see how this turns out.

Para Bellum Consulting Purchases James M. Ward’s Metamorphosis Alpha

Interesting! I just picked up a copy of Metamorphosis Alpha 1e and some of the supplements this week and I'm tempted to run it. Great to see it still getting support. For what it's worth, Chris Clark is listed under "Heroes of the Warden" in the 2020 Doom on the Warden adventure. And he...

D&D General No More Baldur's Gate From Larion: Team Is 'Elated'

Yeah, that's the key. I'm not trying to convince anyone of the glory of Hasbro, just that they do have some talented people there, whatever the corporate overlords are up to. Karpyshyn was definitely mostly a writer, but he was one of the key writers for BG2 and lead for Mass Effect 1 and 2...

D&D General No More Baldur's Gate From Larion: Team Is 'Elated'

Archetype Entertainment is a fully owned subsidiary of WotC, founded by BioWare veterans James Ohlen and Drew Karpyshyn, of the Baldur's Gate 2 fame. I can't find stats on how big they are, but they have Certain Affinity as co-developer, so that's 250+ people working on their first title. So at...

D&D General No More Baldur's Gate From Larion: Team Is 'Elated'

I'm not as upset by this as I should be... I love BG3, but it didn't really feel like a sequel to BG1 or 2. While I'd love an old school expansion pack, I'd be happy to see a new Neverwinter or Waterdeep or Luscan set game and not try to tie things to the Bhaalspawn saga for marketing reasons...

D&D 5E Quest From The Infinite Staircase Adventures Revealed

I'm sad it's not a proper sequel to Tales from the Infinite Staircase, because we can always use more Planescape stuff. However, I was also a fan of Yawning Portal and Saltmarsh, so I'll happily pick this one up.

Running Mongoose Publishing: An Interview with Matthew Sprange

That was a nice, lengthy and detailed interview. Also quite impressed with Matthew Sprange's candour! I would love to see more interviews like this with other major players, e.g. Charles Ryan from Monte Cook Games or Wolfgang Baur from Kobold Press.

Catalyst Game Labs Partners with Paizo to Publish a New Pathfinder Deckbuilding Game

I'm still hurting from the cancellation of the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game. Congrats to Crossfire/Dragonfire fans, but I need to do some soul searching to decide if I could ever love another Pathfinder card game.

Worlds of Design: The Art of Improv

I think the key point is that it's "not for everyone". Having a highly improvisational style of DMing is something that every DM has to decide on for themselves: whether they are comfortable doing it and whether they feel they are making a better game by doing so. I actually blame Mike Shea...

D&D General D&D Making Of Book Coming June 2024

That would be a really cool idea, even if I doubt they'd do it. I'd love a big 'Director's Cut' edition of 3e; bring back Johnathan Tweet, Skip Williams, and Monte Cooke to discuss the behind-the-scenes stories and the rationale behind some of the rules. Even the much maligned 4th edition--I'm...

D&D 5E Quests From The Infinite Staircase Coming July 2024

Thanks, I hadn't seen the other thread! Agreed, Tales had a lot of interesting ideas, but it was also pretty bare bones. I can see reusing the story frame (infinite staircase), but I can't see Tales being the main adventures in the anthology.

D&D 5E Quests From The Infinite Staircase Coming July 2024

While I'm starting to sour on the anthology format, I just finished running Monte Cook's original Tales from the Infinite Staircase so I'm pretty excited to see an at least spiritual successor. Also, this confirms that Wizards isn't done with Planescape yet, which is very good in my mind.

D&D General Baldur’s Gate III Gets Epilogue, Two New Play Modes with Patch 5

It's been heavily hinted that the release date for BG3 for Xbox will be announced on December 7th during the Game awards, assuming they don't just stealth release it then. So almost there!

RPG Crowdfunding News – Invisible Sun, Reaper Miniatures, Templars & Tyrants, and more

I was hoping to see Invisible Sun on the list this week and I'm pleased to see it here!

D&D General Bruce Heard wraps up the World of Calidar

Great write up! I've never know where to start with Mystara, but this is enough to convince me to grab a copy of Calidar Series 1 and maybe that boxset about the Voyage of the Princess Ark.
