D&D 5E What (if anything) do you find "wrong" with 5E?

Great, somehow my mother found her way onto this forum to lecture me about my preferences.

D&D (2024) Dungeons and Dragons future? Ray Winninger gives a nod to Mike Shea's proposed changes.

It was a jab at people who use similar statements to defend questionable practices motivated by profit.

    D&D (2024) Pie in the Sky 6E

    Hello.

    D&D General "I make a perception check."

If I spent a day entangled in an argument on the internet, I would take a moment to remember that the other party's palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy, vomit on their sweater already (mom's spaghetti), then close the thread and probably never bother looking at it again. Heck, I'd do...

D&D General Players' Poll: Which Alignment(s) Have You Played?

    Average Evil Enjoyer, coming through!

    D&D General "I roll Persuasion."

I can't remember the last time a succubus turned me against the highest representative of a sovereign state, but I guess I'll take your word for it.

    D&D General "I roll Persuasion."

For me, the disconnect here is really that it's feasible to masterfully deceive someone without any "social combat" at all. Combat as-is exists as a stand-in to simulate actually stabbing and battering another being, whereas I can run a succubus that plays PCs against each other unassisted...

    D&D General "I roll Persuasion."

I mean, look, if eight people are trying to seduce me- Yes, the human mind is pliant. You can employ gaslighting and layered deceptions to significantly augment the behavior of a sapient being. But you need only look as far as this website to see that there exist recalcitrant individuals that...

D&D 5E What (if anything) do you find "wrong" with 5E?

This is an odd vector for the thread to take, but hey, why not? I touched on this quite some time ago, but a little elaboration is in order. The Fighter is 5e's charop class for minmax gremlins. Action Surge is a powerful ability that shows up early on, some of the subclasses have great synergy...

It can also lower the chance of succeeding.

D&D 5E What (if anything) do you find "wrong" with 5E?

It doesn't have to be anything supernatural. Pathfinder provides several such options that are in no way beyond potential human ability such as being able to make bombs with different effects, swatting projectiles out of the air, and being able to completely deflect some spells with a shield...

    Lemme tell you about Warlock.

D&D 5E What (if anything) do you find "wrong" with 5E?

That post never mentions making all martials fantastical. It points out that classes like the Fighter and Barbarian are starved for options other than "kills things," which is a facet of the game, but spells enable other classes to do that and more.

D&D 5E What (if anything) do you find "wrong" with 5E?

Protection from Evil and Good has a material component, which the spell consumes. It's never specified how much material the spell requires, or even the cost of it. You can't use a component pouch for it. In other words, there's no telling how much you actually need. Okay, I get it, "rulings...

They even use 5th Edition character sheets in the manga.
