What are you reading in 2025?

I've been tearing through the Dungeon Crawler Carl books after seeing them mentioned in another topic, but I've had to pause until the next book is rereleased. I went into the first book expecting to hate it, because all my other exposures to LitRPG have left a bad taste in my mouth, but...

WotC Would you buy WotC products produced or enhanced with AI?

AI discussion will inevitably turn to people talking about the importance of prompts, and trying to elevate it to a craft. If you can get people to accept this, you can dismiss bad AI art because the person who generated it just doesn't know how to use it. I don't think I've ever seen a...

WotC Would you buy WotC products produced or enhanced with AI?

This is, in fact, how that works.

D&D General Would You Buy an RPG Product Printed on a Gutenberg Press?

It is wildly ironic to make a mean spirited "satire" in order to belittle the opinions of people who don't want to buy AI dnd products to say something like this.

D&D General Would You Buy an RPG Product Printed on a Gutenberg Press?

I'm not sure who told you that insulting people who disagree with you is a good first step in starting a discussion, but I hope you didn't give them any money for that advice.

D&D General Would You Buy an RPG Product Printed on a Gutenberg Press?

Absolutely, and as always there are no ahistorical assumptions being made to make the comparison look more in the favor of the person making it.

    Spoilers Daredevil: Born Again (Spoilers)

"Schlocky and unnecessary" definitely fits the vibe of Born Again. Actually probably how I would summarize the series as a whole.

D&D General No One Reads Conan Now -- So What Are They Reading?

I think quite a lot of HP Lovecraft's stories came out years before Conan did, and iirc Lovecraft's copyrights were not always managed by people who knew what they were doing.

D&D 5E Feat, Magic Items, or Multiclassing? Which do you choose?

When I was still running 5th edition, no feats and no multiclassing was how I ran, so magic items are clearly the one for me. I honestly don't think I would even want to play in a game that didn't have magic items.

WizKids Announces Potato Head Beholder Miniature

I can already get a potato with too many eyes for less than 25 dollars (I'm definitely going to get one of these)

D&D General No One Reads Conan Now -- So What Are They Reading?

If you can recognize something is problematic, you've acknowledged it's problematic, so I'm a little confused why you're asking how to go about doing it.

D&D General No One Reads Conan Now -- So What Are They Reading?

I'm not really sold on this. Lovecraft is in the unique position of mostly being known for the things he created, and what other writers did with them. You could be dismissive of a more literary author's writing style but it would be hard to argue that say, McCarthy or Hemmingway or Roth are...

D&D General No One Reads Conan Now -- So What Are They Reading?

I've never read any of T. Kingfisher's romantasy books but her horror ones are very good and have things I would 100% steal for tabletop ideas.

D&D General No One Reads Conan Now -- So What Are They Reading?

For me, reading them as a very young teenager, the Twins Trilogy was mind blowing just for showing a hero whose life goes downhill after saving the day. And since they focus so heavily on the twins and their relationship, which have always been the most compelling part of the franchise, they're...

It's GM's Day! Tell us about your first GM!

My first GM was...kind of terrible. She was dating a friend I was going to college with, who invited me to join a Firefly campaign. I'd never played a pen and paper rpg before, and I'd never seen the show, but it beat going home after class, so I joined up. None of us, excepting the creepy...

Hot take: get rid of the "balanced party" paradigm

I'm not sure I completely agree with getting rid of the party, but I've been in groups that have demanded the group move in lock step and it absolutely destroyed my ability to enjoy the game.

    What's your VTT of choice?

Owlbear Rodeo for me because I don't need or even want the VTT to do anything fancy. A map I can move tokens around on is enough for me. Any time my group used anything more complicated the game would always get bogged down by people trying to figure out how to use some feature we didn't...

D&D General Players: Do You Care From Whence Your DM Gets His Monsters/Challenges?

Mostly I don't care, but I have played with a few people I'd prefer stick to official sources. Only because they weren't very good at telling if something was balanced and the group frequently almost died because they would throw something broken at us without realizing we had no way to deal...
