D&D (2024) One D&D origins playtest survey is live

I found the survey very simple and intuitive. I got questions about almost all of the rules iterations, though I had to parse some of the questions. For example it took a moment to understand that the D20 Test question was about the auto Crit/fail rules. I answered in the text box about my...

D&D (2024) More People Test One D&D Origins Playtest Than D&D Next

After spending years writing SOPs for multiple departments at a major corporation, I can guarantee some percent of people will not read a sidebar, heading, or any other demarcation of Build Your Own background. If WOTC can find a perfect solution, I will steal that in a heartbeat. To be honest...

D&D (2024) What Magic: the Gathering setting would you like to see next?

As someone with no MTG experience just having read up on the various worlds, there a number I would love. Currently from this group I would go Kamigawa since it would push D&D into some interesting places. I think Ixalan is great but it would need a few passes by some sensitivity writers. The...

D&D (2024) Playtest: Is the Human Terrible?

What are the real question a here? Based on the Playtest so far... Can you play a 2014 and 2024 built character at the same table? Very likely with less "power" difference than a champion fighter and a min-max sorcadin at the same table. Can you mix and match 2014 and 2024 rules? Only by...

D&D (2024) Character Origins Playtest Poll

This might seem counterintuitive but I don't think they care as much if you've playtested this first packet. I think it is more meant to serve a dual function. Firstly as a quick gut check, verifying that they haven't lost touch with their fans. They likely believe which way things will go but...

D&D 5E Amazon US book sales rank.

I am surprised how high HotDQ is still selling for #42 in gaming far more than many adventures. Also it is only $19 currently, which is making it hard not to grab a copy for friends. I am wondering if I really understand how this works though. Out of simple curiosity is Pathfinder not selling...

D&D (2024) Character Origins Playtest Poll

Here is the rub for myself. Based on the build a monster rules in the DMG that is calculated into the damage of the CR. I hope they retool and expand those rules but sadly I don't think they'll be playtested... So having to wait for the new DMG is frustrating. To be honest those rules should be...

D&D (2024) Character Origins Playtest Poll

I think this was an odd misunderstanding of what Jeremy Crawford said. It was that they (the designers) viewed recharge abilities as the monsters "critical hit". Those large attacks like the Dragon's Breath Attack is where it does it's big "punch" of damage. They are not intending to add...

    D&D (2024) Live Stream playtests

I know people have strong feelings of Streamed D&D or Live Play shows but I am wondering if anyone has heard chatter of a group they enjoy watching doing playtesting. I enjoy reading others posts and my own groups playtesting but would love to see others approach to the new rules. Just looking...

D&D (2024) Based upon what we currently know, what degree of "edition update" is 5.5?

I chose 5.3 based on your scale but honestly don't think more than 5% of the Playtest we see will survive to 2024. My gut feeling from working with market survey data and doing internal analysis makes me think WOTC knows this to. They threw out a bunch of controversial rules into the survey...

D&D (2024) What do you think One D&D will do to the VTT industry?

I have a feeling this will be specifically targeting a subset of GMs and Players that focus on WOTC adventures. The marketing being "hey you want to play our mega selling APs online without much prep work. Here you go". Maybe bundling the adventure with DnD Beyond for the GM to read. I could...

D&D (2024) What do you think One D&D will do to the VTT industry?

I know this all pure speculation but I also don't buy the idea WOTC wants to pull their licenses. If that was the case their plan makes little to no sense. Why develop a 3D environment that doesn't necessarily compete with 2D. If the goal was market dominance they would have bought a fully...

D&D (2024) WotC is right to avoid the word "edition."

I am curious how or if the Playtest, run up to 2024E will help assuage people. I remember they announced 3.5 in Dragon a few months ahead, but at the time a number of my group were taken by surprise an it made them angry. Also with 3.0 and 4e printing so many mechanical books it invalidated so...

D&D (2024) What do you expect/hope to see in future playtest packets? (+)

I don't think it will happen but, if Feats will no longer be optional, drop ASIs. For half Feats just allow +1 to any score. Simply increasing numbers doesn't feel like it adds much to a character, just makes monsters fall out of scale faster. I would allow fighters and rogues the option only...

    D&D (2024) One D&D Playtest Packet #1 Speculation

Personally, I don't think any of the new Crit rules or the auto pass/fail rules make it in. I also think Ardlings will be rewritten as Aasimar if they are well received. I also think Half-races will get revamped before the new 2024 rules are published.

    D&D (2024) One D&D Playtest Packet #1 Speculation

Out of pure speculation and best guesses which new rules survive the Playtest from Packet #1 to become part of the new core rules. Not asking which ones you'd like to see but those you believe will. I intentionally did not include every possible option, just a handful that feel big. Also only...

    D&D (2024) 5.5 Nat 20/CritHit Rule in play

Crawford also said that classes would still have spell lists but may get to grab spells from these lists at times, I am guessing bard's magical secrets or sublclasses.

D&D (2024) Inspiration change to reroll

Oh... I like the reroll damage, I know my players wilt when their big fireball is nearly all 1s. I might also allow spellcasters to force an enemy to reroll a save. It sucks when you drop your big spell for the day, the enemy saves and your turn is essentially lost.

D&D (2024) Inspiration change to reroll

I like it as a reroll but can see the benefit as advantage. I may house rule to use it either way, declare first as advantage or after as a reroll but you have to keep the new roll.

    D&D (2024) Auto-succeed/fail on ability checks

I am really enjoying this thread, when I first read the new rules I was a hard no. After reading and examining my own thoughts I am starting to change my mind, but for a reverse reasoning. When DMing I used static DCs. Like climbing a cliff would be DC 25. Success means you climb half speed so...
