D&D 5E So, I kind of want to stay with 2014 rules. What are my longterm options?

Depending on where you live it's perfectly legal to scan in your looks and make a PDF and print the parts you need for personal use. I have a spiral bound phb/DMG combo with a slight reformat and editing change that I use way more than anything else 5e related

D&D (2024) So IS it a new edition?

I mean if you have to specify which version of a class, spell, other feature you are talking about to avoid confusion it would at least be a different version.

    D&D (2024) Influence Action

I personally think that static DCs are 10X lazier than giving the GM a odds table and asking them to adjudicate actions but if you are going to use one don't set it so anyone without serious investment in that particular type of check never have a chance even with advantage.

    D&D (2024) 2024 Spell Changes

Anyone catch the giant insects changes? The HP scaling is insane and the spiders seem like they could lockdown targets more often than not.

    D&D (2024) 2024 Spell Changes

Suggestion stood out to me as a kinda sneaky upgrade to spell that really didn't need it. It's in combat usefulness is about the same but outside of combat it's a powerhouse. no concentration 8 hr duration any 25 word course of action that sounds achievable as long as they don't directly cause...

    D&D (2024) New stealth rules.

I've been using the same pattern for every system I run 1) player describes thier goal and how they attempt to achieve it. In the case of avoiding detection details matter but only to the extent of understanding the spirit of the choice. No <actions> or dice are needed. 2) i determine how...

"Static DCs are fine if you ignore static DCs...."

    D&D (2024) New stealth rules.

It might be the new dmg but as of now it's on the original GM screen if I recall lol.

    D&D (2024) New stealth rules.

Yoy Neither points address the fact when you do roll stealth it's completely disconnected from everything else.

    D&D (2024) New stealth rules.

I don't think it matters clean they end up making this. Static DCs are contradictory to the core game logic. It's devalues situational factors which are the most important parts in determining the odds of success.

    D&D (2024) D&D Beyond Article on Crafting

Traditional crafting just doesn't work in the 5e design. It breaks down everything into either adventuring (making progress) or downtime (not making progress) with a extremely fast recovery and advancement rate. Nor is there really any guidelines for crafting specific objects for overcoming a...

D&D General What do you prefer to give/get XP for?

I use the old school gold is spent on training for advancement but I kept EXP for when the party pushes themselves above and beyond. It's basically weightless gold that can't be spent on anything but reducing training cost/time to a minimal.

    D&D (2024) Gain 1 exhaustion when dropping to 0hp?

The PCs don't but players do and that's the intende target audience here. Stacking penalties for staying near death makes logical sense but it doesn't lead to a better play experience IMO. In the same vein PC somehow live long enough to get past lv 3 doesn't make any sense but leads to an...

    D&D (2024) Gain 1 exhaustion when dropping to 0hp?

I mean the thing that is feared here is death/loss of investment so I can't see a reason to differentiate the two. Now look for ways to crank up tension is always a good goal but you need some player facing choice in the manner or it doesn't work. Try not to drop isn't a new choice if it's a...

    D&D (2024) Gain 1 exhaustion when dropping to 0hp?

I think trying to make 5e feel deadly is going to take a lot more effort than trying to make falling to zero more punishing or slowing down recovery rates. Players assume that they have a very good chance of winning encounters because the system says so and it also has no real way of dealing...

D&D General Do You Use a DM Screen?

One utility that is often over looked for screens is it allows you to have information facing the players all the time. For one group that is made up of players that are new(ish) the back has a print out with basic rules and a brief description of the action resolution system/ ability scores...

Not always but I at least have a cover sheet and some place to view dice results not meant for moral eyes.

    D&D (2024) So Class Complexity...

If you think about it, complexity is a pointless metric. How complex something feels is heavily influenced by interest and drive to understand it. What would be useful is a brief description on how the play in addition to the descriptions of the class/subclasses. I've lots count the number of...

D&D (2024) What is your oppinion of 5.24 so far?

I have issues with reaction changing the trigger but before is at least all of them were either none-actions or reaction. A bad pattern is at least a pattern. You see that shield is a reaction so you expect it to effect the trigger in some way where shield of faith is a bonus action so you'd...
