D&D General It's 2034, and the new PHB is in your hands.

The character creation rules will also tell you what real-world accent your PC speaks with. All Elves are laconic New Englanders. Dwarves are from Liverpool, Halflings from Minnesota…

The Legend of Vox Machina Renewed for Fourth Season

Yeah. I mean… image that WOTC/Hasbro had an IP that featured a half-dozen characters, representing typical fantasy archetypes, and could create animated stories about their adventures. I bet they’d try to feature them in game products and little digital freebies, to raise their profile, in the...

D&D 5E Strengthening Interception Fighting Style?

I’d have the damage reduction scale more as the character levels up. CreamCloud above has it scaling with Proficiency Bonus, and that would work. My solution would be to have it scale at the same pace cantrip damage does. So: 1d10 at level 1, 2d10 at level 5, 3d10 at level 11, 4d10 at level 17.

D&D (2024) Intersection of skill & tool proficiencies

[ My mother was a voice teacher before retiring (ie: she trained opera singers), and I’ve taken voice lessons at various times. So I can assure you that singers train and practice exactly the same way that instrumentalists do. How you apply that in your game is, of course, up to you.

How Do You Keep Track of All Your RPG Books?

As the title suggests, I’m curious how you keep tabs on your library of RPG rulebooks, adventures, supplements, splats, etc. After 5E brought me back to rpgs, I began collecting and re-collecting older games I had back in the 1980s—Champions, GURPS, WEG Star Wars, Traveller… Also, thanks to a...

    D&D (2024) Rare Languages

As my 7-year Duolingo streak can attest, I am a big fan of languages—and that carries over into my D&D games as well. I’m pretty sure I’ve taken the Linguist feat on at least half of my characters, because sometimes it’s just fun to be the one guy in the party who just happens to speak...

Only seven people will actually read it. … which is still seven more than read the 2014 DMG.

Sadly, those of us who discovered D&D during the 80s boom years are distressingly close to demanding large-print editions of the rulebooks…

D&D General D&D 50th Anniversary Gets A TIME Magazine Special Edition

It wasn’t available at my city’s Barnes & Noble earlier today—but there was a special edition celebrating Pokemon (not my jam, I’m afraid). I meant to check at my grocery store, but forgot. Maybe I’ll have better luck next week

    D&D General Recommendation for a party of eight+ ?

Split the group into two teams of four. The two teams enter the dungeon/maze from different directions, and have to make their way to the center to grab the Maguffin, then make it back out. First team out wins. Bonus Points: Regardless of what happens, the two teams reach the Maguffin...

D&D General What would be a good published setting to use for a dead/dying world that has been taken over by Tharizdun?

I was looking for something else, and came across this product on DMs Guild, “Doomed Forgotten Realms” https://www.dmsguild.com/m/product/398215 According to the blurb, it’s a post-apocalyptic Sword Coast where the bad guys won in the 5E adventure campaigns, and everything went to pot. I...

Critical Role Is Critical Role Scripted

Just to underscores this point a bit: I’ve been an (amateur) actor for durn near 30 years now. IME, it takes a group of actors about four weeks to prep a two-hour performance. Professionals, of course, would be more adept, and would have the luxury of working at it full-time, so would probably...

D&D (2024) What is the 2024 Bard Power Source?

Since music, like all sound, is the result of vibration transmitted through air, the Bard’s power source is probably one of the more Planes of Air. Specifically, the Jefferson Air Plane. I’ll see myself out. Make sure to tip your waitstaff.

D&D General How many DMs buy (official) adventures?

IIRC, someone on the D&D said about five years ago that half of all DMs homebrew their campaigns. I have no idea if that number would hold up today. But I believe WOTC periodically asks about published campaigns vs. homebrew when it puts out surveys, so they likely have a very rough estimate.
