On Kickstarter There Are More Successful Projects But Creators Earning 30% Less

A couple more useful charts, digging into the data presented (specifically on TTRPGs, not the entire Tabletop category). Based on this and the info in the Polygon article, the Tabletop category as a whole is down on Kickstarter, but that category is much larger than TTRPGs. It is all forms of...

On Kickstarter There Are More Successful Projects But Creators Earning 30% Less

Also consider that there are OGL projects counted within the RPG category (anything that would be considered a stand alone game but built on the 5e OGL). So also a portion of that category counts toward the 5e market in some way. Edited to add: the reported drop Morrus is mentioning is for the...

On Kickstarter There Are More Successful Projects But Creators Earning 30% Less

Some interesting stats pulled from this source, specific to TTRPGs on Kickstarter, and has data going back to 2011: 2023 saw the greatest number of projects ever (1754), beating the previous record in 2021 (1396). 2023 had the 2nd largest funding total ever (~US$58M), and better than 2022...

D&D 5E 5E Lifetime Sales in North American Big Box Stores Revealed

I also think a lot of people get hung up on the "heist" part of the title - it is more of a detective or crime game (depending how your players take it and what factions they align with) - I think Lock Stock is a great example. Setting expectations early to move from Ocean's 11 to Guy Ritchie is...

D&D 5E 5E Lifetime Sales in North American Big Box Stores Revealed

Dragon Heist is my favorite published D&D adventure. Running it (multiple times) is the most fun I've had at a D&D table. I definitely wouldn't recommend it for a first time DM, but it has all the pieces needed to have a great game.

    A New Look for DriveThruRPG

I've opted in to the test for quite a while now, and overall it is a definite improvement. Most of the problems I've experienced come when you hit an area that reverts to the old design. Looking forward to the continued advancement and rollout of this!

D&D 5E When Did 5E Peak Quality Wise?

For me, right now. There is so much available content right now, and so much third party support. Playtests are getting me excited about D&D again, and can't wait to see how the 2024 refresh of 5e cleans up the creaky bits of the system.

    D&D 5E Doing 5ed without classes.

There is a pretty good DM's Guild product that presents a classless 5e: Classless 5e by DiBastet - Dungeon Masters Guild | Dungeon Masters Guild

D&D (2024) RD&D MM will have nearly 500 Monsters, and new NPCs.

I think what would be most helpful for me is either scaling guidance/options for monsters, allowing them to be used at various play tiers (i.e., here is how to make a CR 16 skeleton), or variants built for multiple CR options making the general type of creature generally viable across tiers...

D&D General Kobold Press Going Down a Dark Road

As someone who works in media and marketing, there is a lot more going on than just disposable income. I think a lot of the conversation is circling around, but missing some key points. And yes, this largely applies to the US market, but since that is the primary market of WotC, that seems the...

D&D Movie/TV How was your theatre? Mine was full Sunday.

Went last weekend for the preview screening, and it was a full theater.

D&D General Would you like there to be a new publication of Dark Sun?

There have been several new settings released with 5e. Radiant Citadel, Theros, Ravnica, Strixhaven, and of course Wildemount/Crit Role.

D&D Movie/TV The D&D Movie Reviews Are Coming In

Yeah, kind of a fun plug for theaters. I thought it was a little awkward how it was produced (all the angles of people not looking at the camera, even though they were talking directly to us). My favorite part was just Hugh Grant, who was projecting a very "I am contractually obligated to be...

I would have been equally happy with that casting choice. Maybe in the sequel?:)

    D&D (2024) Developer Video on Druid/Paladin/Expert Feedback

Something I haven't seen talked about much is the DM side of this discussion. In general, I hate having 2014 druids in the party. It isn't just player complexity, there is also significant DM burden with the current design. From helping pull stat blocks together, to constant rules guidance...

D&D Movie/TV The D&D Movie Reviews Are Coming In

Saw it yesterday as well. A fun romp, very Guardians of the Galaxy in tone (sarcastic/snarky humor, found family concept, failing forward), but better than Guardians. Doesn't require any D&D knowledge, but almost every scene has multiple references for people who know the game. A lot of the...
