    Tell your overdue Kickstarter story

I just went and looked this up a month or so ago to see if there had been any progress. I'm still pretty disappointed, but honestly, more so about the idea not coming to fruition than about a good chunk of my money going into the ether.

Would you mind sharing just a rough idea of how close they are / how much is completed at this point?

D&D General A glimpse at WoTC's current view of Rule 0

I'm curious, it's not immediately obvious to me. What do you parse as the difference between (i) and (iv)? Given that (iv) explicitly includes the premise/themes at hand, it's hard for me to see offhand how that isn't a dramatic story beat. Is it that (i) is not necessarily conflict charged? Is...

Hasbro Confirms New Unannounced Dungeons & Dragons Video Game in Development

Seriously, it's honestly been a bit of a turn-off, some of the particular sequences I've heard talked about. It's not the reason I haven't gotten around to it, I know I will with time, but it certainly hasn't helped.

D&D General A glimpse at WoTC's current view of Rule 0

I do think I'd struggle heavily with this, even if I'm tempted by the active encouragement of the system. Both on a personal attachment to character level, and a not wanting to blow things up for my crew / fellow players. I know it's the point, I know it's a goal, I know it's meant to happen, I...

D&D General A glimpse at WoTC's current view of Rule 0

Seriously. Of the things likely to make the game difficult for myself, constantly testing the limits of their good-will and patience seem like an incredibly direct avenue.

D&D General A glimpse at WoTC's current view of Rule 0

Not to ignore the rest of your excellent post, but to address just this: If a player's goal method/process to create immersion is to inhabit a character mind to the best of their ability (or, say, play a character who is similar to yourself, where your personal reactions can hew as close to...

D&D General A glimpse at WoTC's current view of Rule 0

I say this as someone who wants to run Brindlewood Bay badly: There is a incredible gulf in the sort of experience and enjoyment that comes from solving a mystery that a GM has plotted thoroughly in advance and one that is malleable and actively shaped by the players' input.

D&D General A glimpse at WoTC's current view of Rule 0

I mean, here's the quote being discussed (which again, is specifically from a free, introductory adventure designed for new and young Dungeons & Dragons players): Regardless of if you agree with their specific stance, it's clear the people arguing against those instances don't agree and are not...

    D&D (2024) What's Your Experience Like with '24?

I mean, all you really need rules wise is the PHB, I paid less than $50 for my pre-order, and that's a pretty small price to pay to upgrade a game I've enjoyed for quite some time, and want to continue with.

What games, currently, have your interest?

All of the these are brand new to me, and in rough order of active interest: Mothership Heart Wildsea Trophy Dark Yazeba's Bed and Breakfast That said, the number one thing I actively want is to run a new 5e campaign of some sort, using the current rules.

D&D General A glimpse at WoTC's current view of Rule 0

Oh, absolutely, framing partial success and complications is absolutely my biggest stumbling block in running Blades or other games that ask that. I think it's just that the potential consequence was framed as not definite, and also, delayed to some point in the future if it did arise, yet still...

D&D General A glimpse at WoTC's current view of Rule 0

Thank you for writing that up! Very interesting that he took that partial success as a no-win response, but given that, I now absolutely can understand freezing when you feel like you're in that position. Glad that it was a fruitful conversation.

I totally understand if you want to maintain their privacy, or just don't remember or feel like sharing, but I have to admit I'm fairly curious about the course of that conversation, both their perspective and how the instigating issue was resolved.

    D&D (2024) Group Checks?

It does bum me out that this steps on the classic trope of someone about to bumble thoughtlessly past a corner/into a object/on a twig before someone grabs them by the shoulder and yanks them back. I probably won't listen that to that particular caveat personally, though I can appreciate the...

D&D General A glimpse at WoTC's current view of Rule 0

A lot of the questions have been "Why do you as DM not like giving authorial control of X degree to players," and I didn't want to speak for those that felt strongly there. However, as a player: I look to different games for different things, and in some I'd be excited and expecting to...

D&D General A glimpse at WoTC's current view of Rule 0

I'm suddenly reminded of this thread, which ended up covering a lot of similar ground. I have to say, that one did a lot to sway me towards the idea of non-clerics/paladins/etc. pleading for divine intervention successfully, by virtue of the host of story options that result.

Playing in Person Is Just Better (for me)

Even with my online groups, most people have still opted to roll live rather than go through the hassle of formatting online sheets.

Playing in Person Is Just Better (for me)

That's so interesting to me, because I've personally found online play slows things down to a crawl. Maybe if my online groups were composed of more tech savvy folks, it would be different, but between technical problems, people talking over each other and needing to repeat, and needing to flip...
