D&D 5E Are You Planning on Subscribing to D&D Beyond

I don't disagree at all. I'm all in favor of better sheet designs. Though I've noticed that people often have very different ideas of what better sheet designs are. AD

It's possible they'll have more streamlined options. Though I don't suppose that's what the clamoring is on the message boards right now. Most seem to be requesting bigger ones. They seem pretty responsive to feedback. I wonder if you've already put that suggestion out there? AD

I think it's just the first sheet of several. They went with the standard sheet as a first go. We'll see the more complex ones later AD

D&D 5E Yawning Portal vs Tomb of Anilhilation

Understood. Probably best to wait on reviews and get input from those who buy it after it comes out to see if it's enough extra value for you. AD

D&D 5E Are You Planning on Subscribing to D&D Beyond

Yeah. The form-fillable thing was a nice touch. I'm hoping for a bigger version of the sheet where descriptions of features and abilities appear on additional pages to avoid page flipping for newbies. But they say other character sheet types will be added later. AD

They just added the 'export character sheet to pdf' feature, as well as custom portraits. http://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/d-d-beyond-general/news-announcements/5700-beta-update-august-4th-pdf-export-and-custom#c1 AD

D&D 5E Yawning Portal vs Tomb of Anilhilation

Um, yes? He likes those designs. Puts them in all his favorite digs. Honestly, I presume it's just to have a nice tie in with the previous adventure. Some cool iconic stuff from the original. And it seems reasonable that if Acererak came up with the green devil face, he'd be willing to use it...

D&D 5E Yawning Portal vs Tomb of Anilhilation

I don't know anything about nine dead gods, but the marketing has clearly (to me) suggested the adventure is substantially different from a Tomb of Horrors remake. Sure, Acererak is the villain in the background, and he has apparently created another dastardly tomb (not the same one-- as has...

D&D 5E 3 Years Later: D&D's total Domination on Amazon (and Earth in General)

If the reverse engineered algorithm these folks describe is correct: https://selfpublishingadvice.org/amazon-sales-rank-taming-the-algorithm/ It's essentially a weighted moving window, with more recent sales more heavily weighted. If the weighting is truly divided by two daily, it's not far...

D&D 5E Are You Planning on Subscribing to D&D Beyond

This of course doesn't address your first point. But if they deliver the offline functionality they are planning, that would address your 'Note'. (albeit only on devices that can run an app, not on an e-reader) For the first point, I'd say that's a fair concern. It's just in my case that the...

D&D 5E Are You Planning on Subscribing to D&D Beyond

They just updated the equipment and spells interface in the builder and are seeking feedback. Definitely an improvement (haven't tested mobile yet). But of course YMMV AD

D&D Beyond Launches on August 15th for $3-6/m

At the moment, it's a web interface (mobile app is in development). So you can presumably open it on as many screens as you like. AD

It does both. The tooltipping is desktop functionality (as you say, no hover on a smartphone). But desktop or smartphone, clicking an item will bring up the full entry. The tooltipping is just nice when you want a quick look at stats of the creature or the effect of a condition and don't need...

D&D Beyond Launches on August 15th for $3-6/m

I agree that some things can be improved with a better layout. On the other hand, I'm glad they are taking advantage of possibilities of the digital medium. Because there's a limit to how much detail you can include inline without adding too many pages. And it'd be nice to pop around between...

He replied! "There will certainly be more in-depth previews between now and launch. In the short term, I can share that the adventures will have the full text of the adventure with all of the interior art. Maps and art will be clickable into a lightbox for high-res versions, and from there they...

D&D Beyond Launches on August 15th for $3-6/m

I don't know how it would work for tracking multiple monsters. That functionality isn't available and is post launch. So we'll see if they can pull that off. However-- as a rules reference it is very handy and works well on the smart phone. Also, they've developed a digital character sheet...

Actually, you are exactly the target audience. It's designed to work on a desktop, a tablet, or a phone. In fact it's the only D&D reference site that looks pretty good on a smart phone. AD

D&D Beyond Launches on August 15th for $3-6/m

You do get the character builder, neither of which FG or Roll20 do well (it's not their purpose. so not a complaint). And roll20 isn't much for smaller screens. And if they eventually get a good export working for roll20 and FG, it'd be a nice enhancement of those two platforms. I also find the...

D&D Beyond Launches on August 15th for $3-6/m

One might argue they are just trying to skip pdf's as we move to better digital formats for their products. Of course, maybe they are jumping the gun, since a lot of people seem to want pdf's (though i'd be interested in valid survey data on that). Also, as noted in this thread, plenty of...
