D&D 5E What is up with the popularity of watching other D&D groups play the game?

I think you might be taking this a bit too seriously, there was no actual real criticism intended by Max. It was all play.

D&D 5E What is up with the popularity of watching other D&D groups play the game?

Okay, half a lash, just as soon as I can work out how that is done.

D&D 5E What is up with the popularity of watching other D&D groups play the game?

Given my lack of exposure to CR I can't respond to you in an informed manner, so I accept your assessment. And your last statement sounds very plausible. I couldn't help but have a flash in my brain of young sexy Russian maids seeking to marry American men across the internet when reading it...

D&D 5E What is up with the popularity of watching other D&D groups play the game?

What do you think, should we forgive them? I think lowering the penalty to twenty lashes in the public square from forty should suffice, but trying to con the GM into an infinite spell, I dunno. Maybe three days in the socks after the lash would do for that gal. (BTW, I'm not mocking you at...

D&D 5E What is up with the popularity of watching other D&D groups play the game?

I find it likely that the blockage was trauma induced. I put the DVD I had of that movie into one of those cheesy mobiles people used to make and hang from their back porch. I think mine flew away in a windstorm. There was no mourning over it.

D&D 5E What is up with the popularity of watching other D&D groups play the game?

Of all the responses in this surprisingly long thread, these are those that I've liked hearing the most. How these programs draw folks to the game. Even if I never personally come to enjoy these shows, I can appreciate this about them. I wonder if the second campaign is better than the first...

D&D 5E What is up with the popularity of watching other D&D groups play the game?

My games do not play like structured D&D at all. Most of the game time is spent exploring and roleplaying. Combat happens, but when it does most of the time the fights are desperate and deplete the parties resources quickly. This is happening less as they raise in levels, after a year and a half...

D&D 5E What is up with the popularity of watching other D&D groups play the game?

As a matter of fact this is entirely human, and just about everyone does it. It's actually a form of natural meditation most of the time, and there is a whole psychology behind this that is easy to begin to research, but I won't bore you with any particulars. It's enough to say, yep!

D&D 5E What is up with the popularity of watching other D&D groups play the game?

If I were somehow forced (how were you forced btw? that sounds very odd) to watch anything, I'd be rather ticked off about it myself. You're right, I don't care for it, but the creation of this post was to find out why others do, not to justify my personal tastes. There is no moral position I'm...

D&D 5E What is up with the popularity of watching other D&D groups play the game?

Not if you and those you entertain are actually entertained. A good sign is when your players actually return for the next game. :p

D&D 5E What is up with the popularity of watching other D&D groups play the game?

I certainly understand your point, and it's a good one. I've run games for four decades and I will never be perfect, but the idea of spending time doing something I really dislike in the hopes of improving my performance in something I do because I enjoy it seems rather counterintuitive. After...

D&D 5E What is up with the popularity of watching other D&D groups play the game?

No, honestly I don't watch TV shows or most movies these days, I'd far rather read a book. I find most of what is on offer to be shallow and if not offensive, at least borderline boorish. Insofar as playing "better", that is a very subjective approach. I think it speaks well of this program...

D&D 5E What is up with the popularity of watching other D&D groups play the game?

These are the responses I love to hear, how the shows are drawing people into the game. I might not find the programs personally entertaining, but anything that increases the spread of the game is fabulous.

D&D 5E What is up with the popularity of watching other D&D groups play the game?

Thank you for telling me this. I turned off the first episode feeling disappointed and not wanting to say so here (didn't wish to offend). I will go give it more time.

D&D 5E What is up with the popularity of watching other D&D groups play the game?

This is one of the best posts I've read here. Anything that draws people back into the game is worthwhile imho. I agree with your assessment, though I didn't ever stop playing D&D, I have run games in other systems two of which you named. 5e is in my view, the very best iteration of the rules...

Planescape Planescape to languish in purgatory?

You aren't wrong, but my follow up question is are they still? We already talked about the new demographics of the WotC customer base, does this younger crowd remember Tannis, Goldmoon, or Raistlin? Is there enough recognition there to push them into pushing that IP into new products? I don't...

Planescape Planescape to languish in purgatory?

I must run in very different circles than you. I've met a few folks who were good with it, but by far more disliked the various armageddon scenarios.

I hadn't thought about this. It makes my stomach turn a little, but things are the way they are.

Planescape Planescape to languish in purgatory?

Would it be possible to see it in exactly the opposite way? That these small offerings are in fact recognition within WotC that there is still ample interest in Planescape, and that the setting might be getting internal attention over that fact? I'm not trying to naysay you here, you could very...
