There have got to be at least a few folks at WotC and Hasbro thinking... It also wouldn't surprise me if the Guardian gets taken to task by fans in the comments (if their articles still allow them?) for inaccuracies. Maybe enough to make some corrections? But maybe not.

I think that if Hasbro were to permit an abrupt about-face, it would make more sense for them long term to keep the D&D brand. Yes, rebuilding the trust of 3pp and upset gamers would be the work of a generation, but once that had happened, wouldn't it be better to still be the folks holding onto...

Was the rumor about the announcement today even a leak? There are so many pages of discussion that I'm losing track. Certainly Morrus' announcement OP doesn't say leak - did Roll for Combat say anything?

I shouldn't go so far as to say that emotions are really more intense now than they were in 2008; say rather that due to the differences between the GSL and "OGL" 1.1 the stakes for 3pp are higher now.

One thing's for sure, it's not going to be like the pre-game shows on the radio or TV ahead of NHL games. "Yes, that's D&D VP Dan Rawson we're talking about. Got traded from Microsoft for a first-round draft pick. WotC is clearly hoping he'll help them pick up a championship this season."
