    Critical Role Issues Statement

It's vague and entirely noncommittal, but given how entangled CR is with D&D at the moment, I'm sure it's the best they can do for the time being - whatever their actual feelings (pro-WotC or pro-OGL), they want to alienate neither WotC nor their fanbase writ large, and too strong a statement...

OGL-Gate & Mainstream Media: The Guardian Weighs In

The Mary Sue has today an article about the OGL controversy, and not-entirely-coincidentally, an article about alternative games that folks can try. (The list includes Pathfinder, and mentions their recent decision to back a new open licence.)

Paizo Announces New Irrevocable Open RPG License To Replace the OGL

I feel like this probably should have been a Winnebago with wings for maximum nerdiness. But I'm not gonna complain, it looks great!

The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

I suppose. It just feels like distancing between who is delivering the message and who is responsible to me.

The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

The fact that this is appearing on dndbeyond and not the primary D&D website or the WotC website concerns me.

OGL-Gate & Mainstream Media: The Guardian Weighs In

There have got to be at least a few folks at WotC and Hasbro thinking... It also wouldn't surprise me if the Guardian gets taken to task by fans in the comments (if their articles still allow them?) for inaccuracies. Maybe enough to make some corrections? But maybe not.

    D&D (2024) Lifetime boycott of D&D-branded products?

That last statement is frankly an unwarranted personal attack. I don't think anyone ignores what corporations often get up to, although some folk downplay or support such behaviour (just look at how many have carried water for tobacco or fossil fuel interests over the years - often the same...

Paizo Announces New Irrevocable Open RPG License To Replace the OGL

Yeah, what I think 3pp want is to just keep doing what they're doing, more or less.

Paizo Announces New Irrevocable Open RPG License To Replace the OGL

I used to work for a roof consulting firm, and let me tell you, when you've enough snow and ice on your big box retail store roof that its structural integrity is in question, you don't dilly dally on responding. (I mean, people have, but that ends in disaster.) This isn't as bad for Hasbro as...

Paizo Announces New Irrevocable Open RPG License To Replace the OGL

I can actually feel some tension lifting after this. Although maybe that's from a warm house after the furnace was kaput for a week? Either way, it's a good feeling.

Rumours: WotC Announcement Today; Insider Email Reveals Plans

Probably should send this up the line to @darjr and @Morrus, eh? (Er, wow, that really came out Canadian.)

Selling the D&D brand and assets - Hasbro only way out of this mess?

I think that if Hasbro were to permit an abrupt about-face, it would make more sense for them long term to keep the D&D brand. Yes, rebuilding the trust of 3pp and upset gamers would be the work of a generation, but once that had happened, wouldn't it be better to still be the folks holding onto...

D&D (2024) What happens if One DnD fails?

I don't think OneD&D will fail. I hope (though I cannot be too optimistic) that OneD&D doesn't do as well as WotC/Hasbro wanted it to do, and that this under-performance can be traced back to their shenanigans. Edit: To engage with the premise of the thread, though, I think if OneD&D were to...

Rumours: WotC Announcement Today; Insider Email Reveals Plans

That's what I thought. Only there was some talk of both the announcement today and the email being leaks. So I was confused. (The confusion is probably what I get for taking a break from the doomscrolling to get some work done. ;) Bad Composer99 being productive! Bad!)

Rumours: WotC Announcement Today; Insider Email Reveals Plans

If that's the email also in the OP, I don't see anything about a public announcement today in the text (but maybe I've overlooked it)?

Rumours: WotC Announcement Today; Insider Email Reveals Plans

Was the rumor about the announcement today even a leak? There are so many pages of discussion that I'm losing track. Certainly Morrus' announcement OP doesn't say leak - did Roll for Combat say anything?

Rumours: WotC Announcement Today; Insider Email Reveals Plans

I shouldn't go so far as to say that emotions are really more intense now than they were in 2008; say rather that due to the differences between the GSL and "OGL" 1.1 the stakes for 3pp are higher now.

Rumours: WotC Announcement Today; Insider Email Reveals Plans

One thing's for sure, it's not going to be like the pre-game shows on the radio or TV ahead of NHL games. "Yes, that's D&D VP Dan Rawson we're talking about. Got traded from Microsoft for a first-round draft pick. WotC is clearly hoping he'll help them pick up a championship this season."

“…Are they gone?” Countering a Delay Tactic from WotC

Err... these aren't the days of 80s shows being little more than toy commercials. Or perhaps it's better to say that these days are the logical extension of that era to its fullest, "monetizing" extent. MCU films aren't mere advertisements for merchandise. Say rather that the two coexist...
