D&D 4e Rules Compendium in online!

Actually, only we the consumers have had the product for 3 weeks. WotC has had a finished product for at least a couple of months, and have allegedly been working on the DDI for a year. And though it is of little consequence now, the compendium was promised to be availalbe on June 6, not June...

    4e Cosmology Changes

At the end of 2nd edition Wizards came out with a module called "Die, Vecna, Die!" In a nutshell, the lich Vecna attempts to become a god by destroying the multiverse. The end result was supposed to prepare your campaign world for thechanges to 3E, including cosmology. I think that module would...

Dave Arneson Retiring from Full Sail

And a well-deserved retirement it is! I wish him great health, a long life, and a fantastic retirement.

First 3rd Party Product available already...

I figured the GSL part was implied given the state of things this week, but I bow to your superior specificity. :)

FantasyGrounds Takes Legal Action Against WotC

It's not so sensational. WotC took the image down the same day, as posted earlier. There is no longer any issue to deal with, just an interesting point and a cautionary tale to marketing staff: ask before taking from development!

FantasyGrounds Takes Legal Action Against WotC

This makes much more sense, and I can totally see the graphic being used in a mockup. Still, somebody in marketing will be getting a reprimand at the very least.

FantasyGrounds Takes Legal Action Against WotC

Actually when I reread the press release, they haven't initiated a law suit, they've released "a notice of copyright infringement and demand to cease and desist." I suppose if WotC ignores the notice and demand then it could go to court.

FantasyGrounds Takes Legal Action Against WotC

I don't know, it's pretty obvious when you look at those graphics that WotC clipped those dice from FantasyGrounds for their marketing graphics. I don't think it will go to court though. More likely Wizards will just do as they're told and remove the offending marketing material. End of dispute.

First 3rd Party Product available already...

How exactly is my post bonkers? I looked at a calendar and described the results? I stated a fact (minus the exception pointed out by Darren, which I forgot about)? Please enlighten me and put me on the path of mental clarity.

First 3rd Party Product available already...

Yes, you are correct, Free Game Day was the exception to the rule. I also want to add my two cents about the quality of the product...there's nothing wrong with it! I for one don't need fancy full-page color spreads to consider a product worthwhile. There were plenty of flashy Wizards books...

First 3rd Party Product available already...

The GSL was released at the end of the business day Tuesday, June 17. Even if they faxed the Statement of Acceptance that night, it wouldn't be recevied until June 18. That means no third-party product can possibly come out any sooner than July 1.

    Annoying Conspiricy Thread

Dammit Ari, you're destroying my web of lies and deceit! Seriously though, I hope that is true. As I said I don't have the rulebooks yet, so I'm going by what I saw in the SRD. It is entirely possible that WotC pulled the IP parts of spell names from that resource, as I would expect them to.

    Annoying Conspiricy Thread

Although I'm a die-hard Midnight fan, Greyhawk is still my favorite (and first) campaign setting. I think it would be a nice gesture if Wizards either licensed or outright sold the rights to the IP to someone else, who could then continue the legacy. But hey, life is not fair and things do...

    Annoying Conspiricy Thread

IIRC, Peter Adkinson stated several years ago that before the release of 3rd Edition, he met with Dave Arneson and came to a contractual agreement with him. Basically, Dave gave up all future rights and royalties to the name "Dungeons & Dragons" for some undisclosed amount of money. I'm guessing...

    "Fun"

Whenever my players come to a new city and have to get through the guards at the entryway, we inevitably go through the Monty Python's Holy Grail bit with Lancelot approaching the city guards. It's been done to death, and we still do it and love it every damn time. Who is WotC to tell me that...

    Annoying Conspiricy Thread

I guess I better throw a note in here that this is mostly in good fun, so please don't take it too seriously. There's enough griping about 3E vs. 4E to o around, this isn't meant to be another thread in that vein. Please forgive me if I've mislead anyone.

    Annoying Conspiricy Thread

Just because they dedicate the book to Gygax doesn't mean they want to shell out cash to his estate. You can respect a person and still not deal with him. By the way, if you read the Players Handbook backwards you will find the words "no money for Gary" repeated many times. ;) I didn't know...

I just did something I never though I would do

W00t! Villains & Vigilantes 2nd ed. still holds a warm place in my heart! As for 4E, it's not for me but it will go very well for my 12-year-old nephew, who wants to be a "dragon guy" with a big sword. I will play 4E with him, maybe his cousins and friends if I can convert them into gamers...
