    Annoying Conspiricy Thread

Hi all, This may have been discussed before, or not. It's not intended as an attack, just an observation. The title of the thread is a little silly, but apropos, as you will soon see....(wait for it)... Is Wizards of the Coast/Hasbro trying to get out of paying any royalties to the Gygax...

the origin of the ogl and gsl? its all my fault!

    4e D&D GSL Live

Guess I shouldn't use metaphors. :) I meant that WotC can't stop a 3pp from producing specific content that Wizards will later produce using the same name but differently defined, but it can prevent that 3pp and other 3pps from ever using the original 3pp content in the future. (As a side note...

    4e D&D GSL Live

Don't misinterpret me, I don't think of WotC as a malevolent behemoth. Malevolence has nothing to do with profit, and by negating the validity of pre-exisiting 3pp products they would be trying to assert their GSL rights and capitalize on their products instead of turning customers to other...

    4e D&D GSL Live

Problem is, if I bring a toy to play in the Wizards sandbox, and later Wizards makes the same toy with a different setup, they can tell me at any time that my toy is no longer valid and doesn't belong in the sandbox, it has to go. That's not conspiricy, it's a very real possibility (and a...

    4e D&D GSL Live

If what you say turns out to be correct, then I can't see any publisher ever wanting to create anything for 4E, since the life expecancy of any product is essentially determined by the whims of WotC. You might have 5 years, you might have 5 weeks. Not worth the investment of time and money.

    4e D&D GSL Live

Here's an interesting thought though. Let's say Necromancer does make the 4e Tome of Horrors and includes the flumph. They also make their own separate license as you've described above. Fast forward to summer '09, and WotC puts their own "official" version of the flumph in MM2, which has a...

    4e D&D GSL Live

I noticed there's nothing like the section 15 of the OGL. Does this mean I don't have to note my sources if I reuse stuff from another 3pp?

    Marketing criticisms miss the point

I didn't read through all 10 pages of this thread, so I apologize if I'm repeating someone's thoughts... I think that part of the problem I have with the marketing was that Wizards seemed to be saying (in some but not all instances) "You know how we said 3rd edition was awesome and fanatastic...

Steve Jobs takes over as WotC CEO!

Hmm, Steve Jobs takes over Wizards...goodbye OGL/GSL. D&D is a proprietary system that cannot be shared with anybody else. Because everyone else sucks and we are cool. Books at $35 a pop is ridiculous. From now on, they will only be sold in glitzy Wizards stores for $70 a book. You will all...

    Like Digg only for D&D...

This loooks like it could be interesting, but I think it should be opened up as a news source for all tabletop rules systems, not just D&D. I look forward to seeing how this develops!

    Pdf books

A couple of days ago I saw a reply from Scott Rouse saying he "hopes" they will be out later this week. But maybe later than that.

    Gsl?

Big difference between the DDI non-release and delays in the video game industry: Notice that the video game will be delayed occurs BEFORE the release date.

    Gsl?

Nope, he just hopes they'll be available soon. I'll bet they are the same price as the print books.

    Gsl?

Granted it's just a game, but it's also a multi-million dollar business with many loyal (fanatical?) customers who are investing a ton of money into the #1 company's coffers. That company made a number of promises to those customers and not only failed to deliver, IMO they deceived those...

    Gsl?

Not having the GSL ready on June 6, as promised, is bad but not horrible as it doesn't impact gameplay. (Note: yes I know there was a short press release that said it would come out a week later, but that came out after the press release stating how excited they were that the GSL and SRD would...

    Where is the GSL?

Getting back on track with my original question... Scott, are you at liberty to say why the GSL was delayed by another week? If you can't say, that's cool with me, I'm just being nosy. And impatient.

    Where is the GSL?

Eesh, DMCA, another acronym I don't like. Sorry Scott, but the wounds run deep. You should hear me rant about my ex-girlfriend, who bled my savings dry before leaving me deep in debt. But I'm not bitter. And I digress... I'm certain WotC won't repeat that nightmare, but sometimes it's good to...

    Where is the GSL?

Thanks for the info folks. It's great to see that after 6 months they still can't get the GSL ready for the release date. /sarcasm And I don't like the sound of that policy change for fan web sites. I still have memories of the great purge of the early to mid 90's by TSR. Optimistically I'm...

    Where is the GSL?

Maybe I'm blind, but i can't find it anywhere at the Wizards site. It was supposed to be released today along with the core books, but if it was then it's been well hidden. Has anyone located the GSL?
