How were you first introduced to the roleplaying game genre?

I am glad to hear that many of the people also came into the game from reading. None of the games or computers were available when I was 8 - 12 in the early 1970s and all we had was fantasy fiction such as LOTR, Moorcock, even the old "Blade" adventure books.

How were you first introduced to the roleplaying game genre?

My best friend in High School, Ernie Smith, invited me to a game that they had just started. We used the Holmes boxed set and I played a halfling thief with a shortbow. I was hooked. Thanks Ernie for 30 years of gaming fun, wherever you are. :D -KenSeg gaming since 1978

D&D 4E 4E: What we think we know

Yeah, just where is Diaglo? He should be popping up extorting that 4E should be a return to the one true game OD&D. :) -KenSeg gaming since 1978

    5th Edition

I heard 5th Ed will be announced at Gen Con 2015. A friend of a friend whose cousin's brother's best friend's personal trainer knows someone who doesnt work at WotC yet has confirmed this...so it has to be true, right? Given such impeccible sources I would think that this must be so! ;)...

Ryan Dancey on Redefining the Hobby (Updated: time elements in a storytelling game)

I think the virtual tabletop gaming option is one that should be explored by WOTC. After several years of reading threads here and elsewhere, one of the most common comments is that a group dissolved when one member had to move or some other similar disruptive event. Virtual tabletop gaming...

    Anyone remember Comeliness?

Yeah, we have had a separate appearance score for 20 years now. It is basically a free stat score, costing almost nothing for upto 18.

What Is Your Adventuring Groups Name?

Over 20 years of adventuring together and we have had very few names for our groups. One group was known simply as Trouble, the name given in response to a gate guards question on who we were - slightly before we knocked him silly. The only other one I remember was the Sex Assasins. That group...

Law vs. Chaos - the forgotten conflict

The two best examples of law verse chaos are the already mentioned Babylon 5 series and one of my altime favorite book series - the Elric series. Elric by Moorcock was one of the best storylines of that conflict I have read in over35 years of reading sfi-fi and fantasy. -KenSeg gaming since 1978

Is WoTC even relevant to you anymore?

I believe that WOTC is relivant to the gaming industry due to their market share. However, the company is not that relavent to our gaming group. Aside from the core books, the only product from them we have purchased was PHB II in the last few years. As a matter of fact, our group is now...

    Skill Based System for Fantasy

Our DM is looking to utilize or at least base our game on a skill based system for our weekly AD&D type game (mediveal fantasy, etc.). Could I get some suggestions on systems suitable?

The percentage of women in gaming?

50% in my group but that is because our group is made up of two married couples. :)

    Why keep adventuring?

Many of my characters have personal reasons that they adventure beyond fortune and glory. My current fighter is half devil as his mother was a succubus in disguise playing the political game as his father is a well known baron. Once he found out, he is undertaking a quest to expunge the taint of...

Ending the game at Name level?

In 20 years of playing with my group I don't think I have ever gotten a character above 13th level. Our DM generally has campaign arcs and they generally are completed between 9th and 11th level on average. Now part of that is my fault as well as by that point I am ready to try another...

    Memorable Phrases uttered by PCs

In every gaming group there are those phrases that players mention and then all laugh/cry/groan as the memories are brought back. What are the famous saying in your group? In my own group there have been several. The most memorable was uttered about 15 years ago in a mid-high level group. We...

    The C&C poll

I really liked Zulygan's post!! When I play a role-playing game, I do not want to have so many rules that it diverts from my total immersion in the game. I am there to roleplay, not wargame. All of the players in our group have been doing this for well over 20 years and know the basics. We are...

    How Did You Start Playing?

I was introduced to D&D back in early 1978 by a friend. Thanks Ernie, were ever you are! We used the light blue boxed set. Not sure which edition that was. Had a dragon on the booklet cover. -KenSeg gaming since 1978

    The C&C poll

One of these days Diaglo I am going to stop by and sit in on one of your games. We actually have all of the old brown books but never actually played using that system. My first one was the light blue boxed set. -KenSeg
