    D&D 4E The "We Can't Roleplay" in 4E Argument

I totally disagree. The only way that your statement would be true is if the knowledge the monster gained dictated a specific type of reaction. There is no realistic expectation that the risk of danger would inhibit a creature's desire to act in a way that provokes that risk. In real life...

    D&D 4E The "We Can't Roleplay" in 4E Argument

Not at all. The rule of creature knowledge is one of a number of factors that influence how a DM interprets a monster's behavior. Narative is another.

    D&D 4E The "We Can't Roleplay" in 4E Argument

There is no rationale for my comment outside of my personal preferences, which is why I prefaced it with (imho). Why wouldn't it react with that knowledge taken into consideration? Because other factors are overiding that consideration. Such as pain, rage, fear, hunger, hubris, hope that help...

    D&D 4E The "We Can't Roleplay" in 4E Argument

So to clarify you are not saying you think this rule inhibits a DM's decision making or that it necessitates strict tactical adherence in the form of a specific reaction. You just think it is unrealistic that a "dumb" monster knows the same things that a "smart" monster does. Is this correct...

    D&D 4E The "We Can't Roleplay" in 4E Argument

I did. I don't think you can separate the two. The metagame knowledge is only an issue if it's tactical ramifications are the basis of the DM's decision making. So yes the Meta is that the ooze "knows" the rogue is poised to make an immediate reaction but it only effects in game RP if the DM...

    D&D 4E The "We Can't Roleplay" in 4E Argument

But according to RAW does Riposte Strike place an effect on the creature? I don't think so. The creature is not marked, slowed, dazed, etc. It just sets up an immediate reaction for the PC. Regardless, I believe the onus is on the DM. I play my monsters as monsters, ignoring marks and zones if...

Open Letter to WotC from Chris Dias

And if someone would just give an example of what this "valuable service" is and how they feel it would help WotC profit either directly or indirectly, this discussion would be at a close.

Open Letter to WotC from Chris Dias

Have you considered any of the other conclusions that can be arrived at by this anecdote? For instance: 1. That the majority of players of 4E don't find that there are gaps in WotC's published materials that need to be filled. 2. That the majority of the content 3PPs are producing fail to fill...

    Boxed Campaign Settings

Got the monster vault. Sorted the tokens into a Plano Box, put the adventure and map in a binder, and the book on the shelf. The box? its full of older sets of dungeon tiles. I love the box sets and plan on buying more.

    D&D Outsider - Wilden & Shardmind

I too agree with this. I like the concept of the Wilden, but who wants to look like a Wolverine topiary? I also feel that the three aspects should have greater diversity visually.

Dungeon 185 - Bark at the Moon: Dungeons biggest adventure

Here the author speaks to his decision to use tiles instead of new maps (halfway into the article): Tree of Woe

I gotta admit, I am happy they are utilizing the tiles.

2 Boxes Lords of Madness in the mail today

Sorry, I don't think I can post pics but I threw a bunch up on my twitter feed: http://twitter.com/hutchback Not sure how I feel about getting the same huge mini twice (Trihorn Behemoth), but all in all I am pleased with what I got. 2 Rot Grubs 2 Orc Archers 2 Trihorn Behemoths 1 Dwarf...

    The Red Box Smells Weird...

It could be the varnish they use on their materials. Some of the brochures I've gotten back from printers stink to the high heavens until the varnish is done evaporating.

    DM Rewards

You know I don't typically expect anything special from any company whose product I buy and I generally think that the DM rewards is a generous/cool program, but I have to admit I am disappointed by this reward. A card? for a completely different game? Honestly I would have rather had a coupon...

Dark Sun DnD Game Day Adventure Review

Played this on Sat with a first-time DM. Overall I had a lot of fun, primarily, I believe, due to the great group at the table. My only issue with the pregens was that they just didn't complement each other well. The ardent had buffs that really couldn't be taken advantage and the characters...

Tiles and floorplans... how to decorate?

Most of the Dungeon Tile sets come with smaller tiles that contain exactly the type of details you describe (at least the ones I have recently purchased). One can simply place them on top of the main floor plan and hold them in place with some low-tack poster putty. I did this recently when I...

Is the Premium Store Thing Working?

Strange that they would allow a store that doesn't stock current materials to be a premium store. Do they run D&D Encounters?
