Lack of common sense leads to silly rules interpretations that in turn produce silly behavior. I see that jbear has been trying to explain things to no avail so, I sincerely hope you find a reasonable resolution to your personal challenge.

+1, I neglected to bold common sense in my reply but apparently it is even less common on the interwebs. So there is it again.

This is exactly what I envision too, and experience it both when running (getting past that wall at the 20-ish min mark and finding your breath), and in sparring matches where you're almost tapped but find 'that little something' left in the tank for that last 3 minute match.
