Critical Role's 'Daggerheart' Open Playtest Starts In March

You are so not alone here. But this was always bound to happen. 4E did too many interesting things to not act as a treasure trove for RPG makers to plunder or take inspiration from. It only took some time for the pendulum to swing back.

Critical Role's 'Daggerheart' Open Playtest Starts In March

Ok this class packets are seriously impressive when it comes to effort for a play test. This went from not really on my radar to I need to look deeper in this by sheer strength of presentation pretty fast. Edit: I think I can make a high level character with those things without even looking...

WotC Vecna: Nest of the Evil Eye--Deets On The Prequel Adventure

Still you can get it after a while as video game companies mostly get that its looks ludicrous trying to limit sale of digital goods. Those things never run out. It is one thing when in a crowdfunding there is a limited run of lets say miniatures that are only available as physical goods during...

WotC Vecna: Nest of the Evil Eye--Deets On The Prequel Adventure

Yes but with the important caveat that with Verschlimmbesserung you honestly try to make something better but end up worse in some ways. Here we are talking about making something worse with intention to milk out more money of your customer.

WotC Vecna: Nest of the Evil Eye--Deets On The Prequel Adventure

Oh and when that is done the next obvious step is to follow the Amazon Prime example. And make that $19.99 a month for all the D&D you want worse so that you pay $ 2,99 more per month to turn off the suddenly appearing obnoxious advertisements.....

WotC Vecna: Nest of the Evil Eye--Deets On The Prequel Adventure

Yes it is probably easier to use the alternative "platform decay" for translation. That would be "Platformverfall". Although enshitification sounds way better and is more honest as well..... :p Edit: Although how about "Verscheißbesserung"

WotC Vecna: Nest of the Evil Eye--Deets On The Prequel Adventure

Something I did write in anger (not one of my best reactions) after first reading that pre-order stuff and probably shouldn't translate. Although any dictionary probably can do it easily. Sigh the nearest translation would be a "Kiss my ass." Although directly translated from German to English...

WotC Vecna: Nest of the Evil Eye--Deets On The Prequel Adventure

"Pre-order only, this adventure won't be on D&D Beyond afterwards" A very German LMAA. How I loathe stuff like this.

WotC Vecna Eve of Ruin: Everything You Need To Know

Well pre 3E the game tortured me with different XP stuff like different XP tables for different classes, percentage bonus to XP because swas lucky enough to roll a high main attribute for his character. You can't imagine how hard I roll with my eyes when these days perfectly fine and otherwise...

WotC Vecna Eve of Ruin: Everything You Need To Know

Imho the correct way of doing it. I probably haven't even looked d at XP budgets since the 3E days. And there only because of XP costs for creating magic items. I have no problems with the authors just using milestone levelling instead of torturing themselves with XP budgets. Its difficult...

Catalyst Game Labs Partners with Paizo to Publish a New Pathfinder Deckbuilding Game

Reads reads sound interesting ....Catalyst Game Labs ..... looks at his Shadowrun 6E core book....remember the SR core books that came before...........winces......shelves his interested. But hey Paizo good luck. You might need it. I only buy Catalyst stuff when Pegasus has salvaged and...

ZWEIHÄNDER Reforged: Talking With Daniel D. Fox (World of Game Design)

I must respectfully disagree on the "knocked it out of the park" part of WFRP 4E. After reading the core rulebook I went back to 2E as WFRP system of choice. 4e is way to fiddly and has a lot of hard to remember small rule systems. Artwork, writting production values in comparrion are all good...

ZWEIHÄNDER Reforged: Talking With Daniel D. Fox (World of Game Design)

I remember the split among DSA fans being about 30/70 or so. I started with DSA 1E. There you rolled your skills with 1d20. For me that is still the one true DSA way to this day...:) But sadly I am among the minority.....and that 3d20 roll has been awfully persistent for four editions...

ZWEIHÄNDER Reforged: Talking With Daniel D. Fox (World of Game Design)

Well let me tell you that the biggest RPG in Germany was written out of anger about TSR's arrogance and greed. And it was written differently to not get sued and then got promoted hard to press out TSR out of the German market..... :)

ZWEIHÄNDER Reforged: Talking With Daniel D. Fox (World of Game Design)

That d20 instead of a d100 in Dragonsbane couldn't hide its Runequest influences in the rules mechanics at all. It was glaringly obvious at first reading for me. :ROFLMAO: But I have no problems at all with that. Games influence and give birth to new games or variant games all the time. It a...

ZWEIHÄNDER Reforged: Talking With Daniel D. Fox (World of Game Design)

Yes the hobby would be indeed very small if we seriously do this. The number of games based on Runequest alone.....

ZWEIHÄNDER Reforged: Talking With Daniel D. Fox (World of Game Design)

It is also (at least for me) a far more compelling argument then there being no room for a game that uses the old WFRP rule set as base for its rules. Hell I still remember the constant promotion spam when Zweihänder came out.

ZWEIHÄNDER Reforged: Talking With Daniel D. Fox (World of Game Design)

Indeed. By that logic half the hobby would be a knock-off. The thing is you can't patent a rule system. As long as there is no non infringement on Games Workshops Old World you can make such a rule book. Also by now Zweihänder is its own thing with its own fan base. And also there is still...

Tomb Raider Licensed RPG Announced by Evil Hat Publishing

Meh news for me. Despite several tries and some really nice books on my shelves I just can't get those rule systems to work for me.

Shadow of the Weird Wizard Is Finally Here!

Ah a masterclass effort in "How too make a Fighter look interesting with half a page". I tend to forget that Mr. Schwalb created Shadow of the Demon Lord after being involve in writing D&D 5E. :)
