The D&D 4th edition Rennaissaince: A look into the history of the edition, its flaws and its merits

Well that may be true, but there are now really again more videos and other things being posted about 4E the last months and such blogs and especially videos (even with wrong information) will just reach more people than forum posts. This one is not even the first one in the last 7 days. And...

The D&D 4th edition Rennaissaince: A look into the history of the edition, its flaws and its merits

Well there is. More people start making 4E content again, videos articles etc.. Its not a huge spike but it was a steady grow the last 2 years. Also more and more 4E inspired games are coming out and being played: Gunbat Banwa, Wyrdwood wand, bludgeon, beacon (in addition to Lancer, Icon...

The D&D 4th edition Rennaissaince: A look into the history of the edition, its flaws and its merits

I agree, but I have Essentials a bit more positive overall. I think it is a great idea to also have simplified classes. I think some of the simplified classes are really really cool. Hexblade is really flavourfull, scout is a really elegant way to bring the ranger to its core (multi attacks)...

The D&D 4th edition Rennaissaince: A look into the history of the edition, its flaws and its merits

Well sales in Essentials did drop a lot compared to the initial 4E launch (more than 3E to 3.5). So objectively spoken it was not in a good direction. We can also see this as only the first 2 "heroes of" were even named Essentials. The Essential line confused people (to this day! You can still...

D&D 4E Was there ever any clarification about beast mastery?

What would the written word be for you? Because here I dont think this is clear at all. For me raw is "you have to give up prime shot" so you must have this to give it up (so no running attack even though this is implied to work together) and "no not select either archery style or two blade...

D&D 4E Was there ever any clarification about beast mastery?

I am well aware of the "general interpretation" of Beast Mastery being a Fighting Style / replaces both Fighting Style and Prime Shot, but was there ever any clarification (Q&A or anything) which clarified this? I checked the compiled 4E errata, there nothing was changed in the original beas...

D&D 4E Alternative Form Fillable Character Sheet

Wow thank you for posting this! This is great work, it really looks nice! Dont worry about the 4E subreddit, its nowadays almost only used for advertising the discord unfortunately, there was even a pinned post removed last year, which made it easier for people to start playing again, without...

Which Edition of D&D (or OSR Ruleset) Has the Best GMing Advice?

The D&D 4E DMG has definitly a lot of good advice for beginner Dungeon Masters. It even tells what kind of different styles there are or one can choose, so its not saying there is only 1 way. It even includes advice ffor what to do to prepare depending on how much time you have. Tipps on how...

    D&D 4E D&D 4E Post-Mortem

My question is why? Why do you play a 8 player game in D&D 4E with players who obviously dont like the system? Also why could they not just get the character builder running on their computers? D&D 4E works best with 4-5 characters where all player know and like the system and know their...

    Looking for D&D-like alternatives to D&D 5e

These are good recomendations, from my point Beacon is the strongest (most streamlined, best layout, and still having many build possibilities). It is also well made for shorter missions, with the example mission in the book only having 1 fight. What you could do to remove the need for feats...

Which Edition of D&D (or OSR Ruleset) Has the Best GMing Advice?

Dungeon Masters Guide 1 and 2 of Dungeons and Dragons 4th Edition. There is soo much general advice in it, it includes updated parts of Robin Law's rule of good game mastering, which is also highly praised: Robin's Laws of Good Game Mastering and gives insight in how balancing and math behind...

    D&D 4E Disguising 4e as 5e/5.5e

The problem is if you play 5E you still have to deal with the bad balance, bad encounter building, way too deadly levels 1-2, unclear rules, boring default monsters etc. For someone who likes 4E having to play 5E and making it what you want is way too much work and frustrating. In 4E you can...

D&D 4E Determining cover in 4e: The pingpong dilemma

These things happen its not that unusual. I play in a lot of boardgame groups and in soo many boardgames at some points someone notices that a rule is played wrong. Often someone from another group. I honestly also think this rule is a bit too complicated. Having from one of your corners a...

    D&D 4E Disguising 4e as 5e/5.5e

You could also just try to do a one shot with them with a "homebrew" and play 4E with them. And then if they like it tell them its 4E.

So what can 4e learn from 5e?

Most magical items in 4E do have powers though, they just ALSO have +X. What I posted here: So what can 4e learn from 5e? is a relatively easy way to get rid of all +X accounting parts.

    D&D 4E Disguising 4e as 5e/5.5e

Of course usin 5E monsters with 4E is not a good idea, but the trick with the 5E covers might be. So OP could just use some 5E covers on 4E books on the table. (Maybe some 3rd party book covers to make it less obvious). I mean it worked with your example, it might work with other players as well.

    D&D 4E Disguising 4e as 5e/5.5e

I thought exactly the same. Why would you come into a 4E thread when you cant stand 4E, just to tell people to play something different? I am not so sure here. It is something which PF2 people often say, but a lot of people saying that they also enjoyed 4E dont really show knowledge about 4E...

    D&D 4E Disguising 4e as 5e/5.5e

PF2 plays really not like D&D 4E at all. It uses some of the same math, the same multi classing and skill powers, as well as having some subclasses which mirrors the 4E essential classes, but from gameplay its much more similar than 5E than 4E, being also mostly basic attack focuses. Gloomhaven...

So what can 4e learn from 5e?

For me the lair action just feel like a cheap fix for the not working action economy in 5E which are needed to make a solo work at all. (Together with the legendary resistance). You can also have traps in 4E (which are mostly against the party), not only hazards. And traps already have...

So what can 4e learn from 5e?

Well in general: Having less bad options. Its not only feats, there were also quite a lot of powers (a bit less for items), which were just really weak and did not really add much to the game. Of course its good to have options, but if there are too many which are not useful at all, it just...
