    Level Titles

Of course, I do, but anyone reading this post is going to be all ROLLEYES OF COURSE THE DELVER DOES OLD GAMER IS OLD HULAHALGHAGHALGHA - and completely miss the point. Level titles are cool, and add a level(!) of "jive" to the game internals. Why wouldn't thieves' guilds have level titles? Or...

Balance bwtween Class, Race, and Background

I don't agree that "99% CLASS" is where AD&D lies. A lot of what you can do in AD&D relies on race. Wanna level endlessly in any class? Human. Resist sleep spells with 90% efficacy, see in the dark, find secret doors, use swords & bows at +1? Elf! etc. Honestly the breakdown in AD&D is...

    Edition reccomendations? (Earlier d&d)

Yeah, listen to these people: you don't want AD&D, man, with its pages of lore, demons, devils, artifacts, the conversational tone of the DUNGEON MASTERS GUIDE, the art of Dave Sutherland III, David A. Trampier, over a dozen classic modules. Play Basic D&D, or better yet a sterilized clone of...

    The D&D Logo

I hardly think having one guy working on a logo is misplaced priorities. Saying "Mike, call someone in design and see if we can tart up the old D&D logo a bit." takes less time to say than it did for me to type. Three or four minutes on the phone? Then you're moving on. If it's not sent in...

    The D&D Logo

Nah; I think it looks like an early mid-80s ('83/'84) video game box design choice. Really? Just looks like something they'd use on a splatbook or module or something. You know, quick, easy, cheap to get designed.

    The D&D Logo

Okay, let's break it down. I don't like any of 'em. #1 - "The Fanzine" #2, #3, &#16 - For your ATARI 2600! #6 - From MECO Toys! #7 - Actually this one sucks the least. #8 - Hey, Chris_Nightwing, you almost got your wish on that one, brother. #9 would be awesome if they'd put the ampersand...

    The D&D Logo

Well at least if they did that the unified XP chart would start to make a little more sense...

    The Very Very Core...

Spells are in no way a "feel" thing that is optional. Either D&D has them or it isn't D&D. That's quite an edict, you say? Yes. Yes it is. Every influence of D&D - the works of Howard, Moorcock, Leiber, Tolkien, Smith, Norton, Dunsany, Farmer, Fox, VANCE, Merritt, Zelazny and on and on -...

    L&L 3/05 - Save or Die!

I like save-or-die but it should be a rare thing, which is dependent on good Dungeon Mastering. It's easy for me to throw a catoblepas or gorgon or what-have-you at a party on any given Sunday. The hard part comes in keeping them alive! :) Where I draw the line and say "no, you put that right...

What way of playing D&D is completely incompatible with your way?

Storygaming is a hateful, vile thing to me. Don't give me your manuscript for your unpublished DRAGONLANCE heartbreaker and tell me "this is what you're playing", because what you mean is "here's your script, welcome to the game." So-called (nowadays) "System mastery". Where you're gaming the...

D&D Race You Hate the Most

Kender: LOLZ HEY WHAT IF WE MADE HALFLINGS LIKE TOTALLY HATED TWINKS LOLZ. Eladrin: You can keep your blink-elves to yourself, thanks. Tieflings: Know what we call the offspring of demons and devils 'round here? EXPERIENCE POINTS. Dragonborn: Cannot. Stand. Warforged: Wow. Someone actually...

What is a rogue to you?

    That's fine, that's still not a thief. That's a chaotic (neutral/evil/maybe good) fighter.
  13. thedungeondelver

What is a rogue to you?

No, that's a fighter. You answered your own question. If I decide I want to be a sword-using magic-user in AD&D and gather up all the magic items usable by fighters (some scrolls, potions, rings, wands, staves, misc. items etc.) as best I can, wear robes instead of armor...that still doesn't...

    D&D 5E appendix Next

I say: take the original list, add everything that's been added to it since in whatever form "inspirational reading" lists took. Why take anything away?

Which class do you hate the most?

I said "druid" but I missed "Psion/Psionicist" on the list. My god, you want to talk about something that has no business in D&D...psionics. Yuck. Yuck yuck yuck.

What is a rogue to you?

For the record, in case I didn't mention it up thread, I want to see the thief brought back. The lockpicking, sneaking, hiding from the big fight, moving in shadows, moving silently, pickpocketing thief back in the game. As it has stood since mid/late 2e the thief has become "the guy in...

Gishes themes, classes, paragon paths and concepts

Understand, though, magic in Nehwon isn't AD&D magic (in spite of Mr. Lieber's (and Faf & Mou's!) apparent affinity for the game). It was implied in the description of the casting that doing so was really costing both Mouser and his then girlfriend a lot to be part of that spell. It kind of...

Gishes themes, classes, paragon paths and concepts

Mouser cast a Death Spell from himself through his girlfriend, who was holding her father's wrist while said father was making her watch Mouser being tortured to death (daddy hated mages, and Mouser's first apprenticeship was under a magic-user). So he cast a Death Spell into her, which she...

What is a rogue to you?

Hm, I wouldn't mind seeing a split between Rogue and Thief either. That way I could ignore the Rogue entirely and put thieves back in the business of thieving and fighters back in the business of fighting. Incidentally, to me a Rogue is a 1st level Thief.
