D&D General What are the coolest/most innovative mechanics D&D could take from other games?

Ever since I read the 13th Age books I thought that's how you should do skills.

D&D 5E Amazon US book sales rank.

They really seem to be leaning in to the smaller books/more art/less content thing.

    Stars/Worlds Without Number (General Thread)

I’ve never been interested in running a cyberpunk game, but if it’s a book by Crawford I might just Kickstart it on general principle.

D&D General Best Adventure Path (spanning 10+ levels) of all time?

So everyone talking about these Pathfinder campaigns is making me want to take a look - what’s the best way to get these? What are the best versions of Runelords and Crimson Throne to get?

PSA: Dying intestate is a P.I.T.A.- take care of your “final arrangements”.

My mother didn’t know it would be the last year of her life but she spent a lot of time getting her affairs in order and sitting me down and talking me through it all. It was still a PITA to get everything straightened out but nowhere near as bad if she hadn’t done that. My goal is to make my...

Another vote for Worlds Without Number - it’s got some fantastic GM advice and tools

Now that this is over (for now at least) What are you going to do?

l‘ll be going over my notes for my Curse of Strahd campaign, the same thing I would have done otherwise.

OSR Are There Any OSR (or OSR-adjacent) Games With Modern Sensibilities?

Nor should it be. I am glad that there are different games for different play styles. So last night I sat and leafed through my copy of Worlds Without Number and have to say, it's just about everything I'd want in a OSR-ish game - it's really well presented, there is a skill system but it's not...

D&D General So how about alignment, eh?

I would be okay if a future version of D&D didn't have it but it's expected so we're stuck with alignment or so it seems

Pathfinder, Cthulhu, Level Up: D&D Competitors Start To Sell Out

It's not going to happen as soon as you think, unfortunately. Checking today, the D&D PHB is Amazon's top 165 selling book - not RPG books, not fantasy books - all books. Even after almost ten years and all this controversy it's still in the top 200 selling books on the world's largest online...

D&D General WotC Reveals New Information and Covers for 'Keys from the Golden Vault'

I likened it once to buying a new car and getting a truckload of parts for you to put together yourself while the dealership tells you everyone approaches driving differently so they’re giving you the freedom to assemble the car the way you like it.

D&D Movie/TV Where is all of the Honor Among Thieves D&D stuff, WotC?

They do this all the time - it is a pretty common thing in book publishing. Most of the time when they turn a book into a movie, they reissue it with a tie-in cover. Hunger Games, Twilight, and yes, even LotR. A notable exception is the Harry Potter books. It is easy to forget we here are a...

D&D General Best Adventure Path (spanning 10+ levels) of all time?

TBF I haven’t read a ton of it but what I’ve seen, I’ve liked. Lots of sidebars with DM tips and designer‘s notes.

D&D Movie/TV Where is all of the Honor Among Thieves D&D stuff, WotC?

That’s really not how movie tie-ins work. If they were going to do a book it retailers would have been able to order it months ago. If we were talking about, say, a Star Wars movie, places like Barnes and Noble would have had displays up for weeks at this point. If they’re waiting for the 50th...

D&D 5E Which D&D books currently scheduled for 2023 are you interested in?

I’d say None Of The Above, but not necessarily because of the OGL. I’m just not convinced they can do a setting guide without colossally messing it up. I’ve also stopped buying their adventures until I can read some reviews that actually take some time to read the books.

D&D General Best Adventure Path (spanning 10+ levels) of all time?

I’m currently running Curse of Strahd and while I’d call it the best 5e adventure I’ve run so far, that’s some faint praise as I’m becoming more convinced Wizards makes adventures to be read as coffee table books instead of playable adventures. I’m honestly not sure if I’d actually recommend it...

D&D 5E Attack of the Clones: What would you want in your not-quite-5e?

What I'd want is what I originally thought the fiftieth anniversary version was going to be - a retuned 5e with all the errata in place and all the feats, skills, classes, and spells rebalanced. With all the decade or so of clarifications and revisions incorporated into the new PHB.

D&D 5E Amazon US book sales rank.

Basic Fantasy is probably really high up there because not only is it a good OSR system, it's dirt cheap. I think Chris Gonnerman sells it at cost as a labor of love. You can buy the rulebook for a tenth of what other games cost. (You can also get all the books for free on his website too)

Read the actual OGL document and take the survey when it comes out

All you can control is your response to things. If a corporation asks for your feedback and you care, you should give your feedback. What they do with it is beyond your control but at least you said your piece.
