What is your second edition experience (no edition war!!!)

I was a long time AD&D/basic player who'd moved to other games when 2nd came out. I bought the books and was a bit underwhelmed. I didn't like the art for the most part (though there was some nice pieces in the MM) and the rules changes didn't really impress me. I didn't run 2nd until the...

Mageknight and Dreamblade minis for D&D?

I converted my mage knight collection by debasing them with a scraper style x-acto blade (most are easy, but some are a real pain, wear cut resistant gloves!) and gluing them to wooden bases made by Litko Aerosystems. You can get 100 3/4" bases for about ten bucks. I blackened the bases with a...

Against the Giants picture gallery is up!

Why does the paint job on the white dragon look decent but the red dragon looks like a playskool toy? Dungeon of Dread had a lot of figures that looked like throwbacks to Harbinger the painting was so bad, this is more of the same. Disappointing. -Q.

Anyone seen the July 3th Colbert Report?

I'm a fan of his show and watch regularly and he's made numerous D&D references during the show and even made mention of G. Gygax passing. Growing up a lonely geek is part of the character he plays, though I wouldn't doubt he's had some personal experience too. -Q.

The after-action report from last night's 4E game

Bravo! This is the real spirit of D&D. Thank you for posting. -Q.

Does performing Trip attempts every round ruin Suspension of Disbelief?

We had a "disarm monkey" in my currently ending campaign, using sai he had very little chance of failing to disarm foes even eight-ten levels above him. He even sent giant's weapons flying a good bit of the time. What might seem cool, or even logical in theory can easily turn out tiresome and...

    Trip? Disarm? Sunder? Gone forever?

I would point out that the main characters who were disarmed in the Star Wars movies (whether they lost the weapon or the limb) were all at the verge of defeat. Luke didn't just walk up and slap the saber out of Vaders hand on the first strike. IMO these sorts of attacks should be restricted to...

    Five Alignments?

Someone can do perfectly horrible things and still be ethical within the framework of their circumstances, but morals are supposed to be consistent across all situations. This is why moral dilemmas are more profound than ethical ones. Cutting open someone's chest and removing their still beating...

    Daily Art Preview

For things the players are meant to fight and defeat they're fine, for creatures meant to inspire awe they fall very flat. -Q.

    Smuggled photos

I did play Traveler, I thought it was horribly spartan not only art wise but also in the way they glossed over little things like the fact that sentient aliens existed in the game. If the descriptions of the game universe had been more colorful and in depth I'd agree with you. It was the best...

    Is "Justiciar" the new "Rogue?"

This is a correction I think the vast majority of players and DMs can live happily without. -Q.

'Dungeons & Dragons' fights for its future

Nothing new here, D&D has never gotten decent treatment in the media. I still recall the old 700 Club hatchet job stories about the game turning children to Satan and encouraging suicide. -Q.

    Pile up your Dead

I've had this problem in 3.5 as well. A medium creature is one thing, but what happens when a giant gives up the ghost or any other large or huge creature for that matter. Tipping the mini on the board was unsatisfactory, so I made some generic corpse counters of various sizes to keep the battle...

    Pathfinder 1E Paizo Annoucement!

Books-A-Million carries Pathfinder in my area, it's in the same section with the D&D books. Our Barnes & Noble is terrible in every catagory and carries no new WoTC products and just random bits and pieces that I suspect are cast offs from other stores. I haven't seen a D&D book in a toy store...

Points of Light: 4th Edition Additions (positive feedback please)

I like the emphasis on balance and making class combinations viable, my biggest complaint with 3E was how easily the classes fell out of balance and how I had to restrict player options for their own good. "You'll never get 7th level spells if you do that." -Q. To Greatwyrm: Bring the big tv...

DID 4E basicly steal the '20 HP kicker' from Hackmaster?

    Stay out of this thread!

I agree with you 100% and I'm not afraid to suffer the consequences! ... bwah-HA-ha! I really DON'T agree with you, the above line was just a cover for a dissenting post! Let the flames pour out! ... What were we talking about again... -Q.

How would you fix the Paladin's Mark?

All it says is that if the marked creature attacks another creature it suffers the damage. I my judgment that means if the creature attacks no one it suffers no effect. I agree that the power should have either no or a negative effect if the paladin tries to avoid his mark, which seems to be...
