Request for Dedication to Gary Gygax

We lost a pioneer today. Thank you Scott and thanks to WOtC for their response. Game on! -Q.

Rules that still feel unneeded (to me)

All bloodied tells the players is that the mob is half dead, not usually what they really want to know: "Will my next attack drop this thing?" -Q.

    New Player's Handbook Cover Art!

I think I would like to see a party of four on the cover, what with it being fourth edition and all. I personally can't get enough Wayne Reynolds, he and Lockwood are the iconic artists of D&D for me now. Not much point in arguing aesthetics though, one man's beauty is another's beast. -Q.

    Where are the rapiers?

I seem to recall Tim Roth getting split in twain by Liam Neeson at the end too. ;) -Q.

    Where are the rapiers?

I'm not a big fan of rapiers. Being more renaissance weapons than medieval I could never untangle them mentally from the genres that made them famous. Every time I see a bell guard I think Zorro (maybe cause I was a huge fencing nut as a teenager). I prefer my own rogues to use daggers and "big...

    Why WILL you switch?

The main factor for me is the ridiculous amount of material in 3.5 I had to restrict or ban. I have one player who can find unbalanced feats and classes like a bloodhound, and with every new book he'd find several somethings that fit under the "omg did they even play test this" category. Having...

D&D 4E Going/Not Going to 4E which edition did you start with?

Started with a ratty copy of the red book back in 1982, which I still have, though it's become a transparent tape mummy. I've played or DM'd every edition since. I'm working right now to convert my 22 year old campaign world to 4E, and hoping the new edition lives up to my expectations. -Q.

    Spell-less Ranger confirmed by Mearls

I'm sure rangers will be able to do most of the stuff they used to with spells with powers instead. I think ranger will be a lot more fun to play. -Q.

    No more cone shaped powers?

I consider myself a 4E supporter, but I just can't get behind this diagonal madness. Are angles really so odious that the rules have to warp reality to keep the game running smoothly? My current game originally involved all new players, I provided each with a small sheet with all the area...

    What's with the sexy githyanki?

Yeah, jaundiced and anorexic, just the way I like my booty calls... we are sick! MEDIC! -Q.

The Devil's in the Details: Slavicsek reveals the Pit Fiend in all its glory

Fear is more than a psychological effect, it also causes a variety of physiological effects. When your heart is beating faster blood born toxins spread faster. Intense fear can cause nausea, shaking and even death due to stress on the cardiovascular system. -2 seems reasonable to me. I hope...

    Green Dragon

The two most distinctive things about the old green was it's single frill and crocodile-like mouth, It looks like they tried to retain the mouth at least. Maybe we're seeing the mini from a bad angle and it just looks like a massive bucket of suck. One can hope. -Q.

    Races and Classes--I has it!

Yep, I got it yesterday as well. Won't say where, I have friends that work there and I allready give them a hard enough time about what sections they have to put books in. After reading it into the wee hours of the morning I have to say this was a good idea. Reading so much about the debates...

    Malebranche now a demon

Some of it's decent, but I don't care much for the green dragon, looks too generic. As soon as I saw the Trog all I could here was "He's not a baby, he's a fidgit!" -Q.

Will Wizards Still Lord it Up?

I always assumed it was because of all classes wizards were most likely to grow into the 'movers & shakers' of a world. Even if a fighter or somesuch rises to be king he still has to contend with mortality, while by cliche one assumes wizards will find some way to extend their lifespans. -Q.

"Per Encounter"-Ability: Hopefully not in the rules

I'm not so sure the definition of an encounter is going to be so arbitrary. Imagine what players would think if a DM altered his definition of an encounter from one to the next to fit his story… Player: I’m gonna smite the giant! DM: Sorry, you used your last smite just a few rounds ago. Player...
