There was something posted *somewhere* that suggested that the final MC rules (post-playtest) require you to meet both requirements. I plan on ignoring those requirements all together (just as I did with race and level limits in 1e/2e) so I'm not really bothered either way.

I don't know whether it's productive to describe Basic as "Core" or not, but there will certainly be DMs who disregard rules and character options that appear in Basic. Call it what you like, but there will never be a core set of rules that ALL Dungeon Masters follow.

From a common sense stand point, I can't imagine penalizing players for an interrupted long rest. If they rest for 7 hours, then get in a fight for 10 minutes, then finish their rest, I think that's fine -- although I wouldn't allow them to recover resources expended during the rest.

While I'm glad the Starter Set exists and approve of the specific contents, I have no interest in buying the thing. Provided Wizards releases the Big 3 in PDF, I'll be buying them later this year, but I have no use for a starter product.

I stopped buying 4e books when they dropped the PDF option. I won't buy 5e unless they have a PDF or comparable option available. It maybe sounds harsh, but it's just a practical reality.
