D&D (2024) Should a general Adventurer class be created to represent the Everyman?

I didn't say they weren't buyers. My point is there are benefits and drawbacks of your main purchasers and designers being "Dragonlance PCs" fans who like overpowered special but stereotypical PCs . We will see how things change as the "Critical Role PCs" fans replace them with their cute but...

D&D (2024) Hunter's Mark, Hex, and the illusive balance

I'll say what I say on Reddit and get downvoted for over and over again. There is no fixing either of these spells in fifth edition because the community demands backwards compatibility. And since these spells are spells of those levels in the earlier versions of them, you can't unspell them...

D&D (2024) Should a general Adventurer class be created to represent the Everyman?

It's not that the WOTC side of PCs make less sense. It's more that it's clear that D&D has been steered by the "Dragonlance PC fan" wing of the community for 25 years.

D&D (2024) Should a general Adventurer class be created to represent the Everyman?

It would have worked easier back in older editions were a PC class was only a slight step above an NPC and many NPCs were just low level PCs. A decent Hit die with a basic saving throw in to hit progression and a progression of racial or occupational features would be a great help in a party...

D&D (2024) Should a general Adventurer class be created to represent the Everyman?

I think the Adventurer/Everyman has a Race as Class feeling I would have the Core Four Subclasses be Lucky Guy - Very lucky nobody Factotum - Versatile Role Swapper Paragon - Racial exemplar Divine Descendant - A relative of a demigod or exarch

D&D (2024) Should a general Adventurer class be created to represent the Everyman?

Other way around. An Adventurer/Everyman is the progress of their background. I'd make the Factotum and Lucky Bastard subclasses of the Adventurer class.

D&D (2024) Should a general Adventurer class be created to represent the Everyman?

That's the lore for the book and the class design of 2025 5e. A fighter isn't just an alternative warrior, it's a better trained on.

D&D (2024) Should a general Adventurer class be created to represent the Everyman?

People would see Doug as lucky but they wouldn't see Doug as special because nothing Doug does in reality looks special. Nor does Doug have any special training that would classify him as special. It wouldn't be until or if he is revealed to be special by some kind of prophecy or magic that...

D&D (2024) Should a general Adventurer class be created to represent the Everyman?

You're looking at as a player. You see the luck points. The world sees Doug as a farmer who became a castle guard who has terrible fencing form and knows a few weak tricks from his allies that somehow kept him from dying hundred times over. But when he squares up to an ogre, people say "This...

D&D (2024) Should a general Adventurer class be created to represent the Everyman?

It's like 5e's sorcery An innate feature that doesn't come out unless you focus on it at the exclusion of everything else. It's about training. The Fighter is a Doctorate in Weaponry The Everyman/Adventurer is a High School Grad who joined the Fight Club

D&D (2024) Should a general Adventurer class be created to represent the Everyman?

Yes. They take the Everyman class or the Adventurer class.

D&D (2024) Should a general Adventurer class be created to represent the Everyman?

Again you are missing the distinction. Doug is special. Doug's class isn't special. Just how a 6' 4" 350lbs muscle man can be special but just be a waiter.

D&D (2024) Should a general Adventurer class be created to represent the Everyman?

The Everyman PC is special just as every PC is special. Anyone over level 4 is not just a regular guy. You aren't playing a NPC. The Everyman Class isn't special. The Fighter class isn't a regular warrior anymore. The Fighter class is equal to the training for the Elite Numbers and Letter...

D&D (2024) Should a general Adventurer class be created to represent the Everyman?

A Level 20 Everyman will mostly roll very high on most of their checks. They will eventually run out of luck and turn into a high HP ball of uselessness like a wizard without spells. The party will leverage his or her luck by attempting to limit the need to spend too much luck and escort them...

D&D (2024) Should a general Adventurer class be created to represent the Everyman?

To me, the class would naturally multiclass via its subclass. Dabbling into the knowledges of their friends and mentors. Or upgrading their background skills and feat. Or realizing how lucky they were to survive so long and dive into the luck theme. For example, I could see a subclass of the...

D&D (2024) Should a general Adventurer class be created to represent the Everyman?

Luke Multiclasses into Jedi. But he has no Jedi levels in the whole A New Hope. He's a Fringer, the Star Wars for Farmer. Luke rerolled his attack 2 times with his Farmer Luck Points to not miss like a dang elf.

D&D (2024) Should a general Adventurer class be created to represent the Everyman?

Because only a complete nobody would kill an ogre and decide to learn the lute.

D&D (2024) Should a general Adventurer class be created to represent the Everyman?

I'd give them Additional Origin Feats. Thematically the Regular Guy in the party is the one who has info dumped on and usually learns a trick or two from their pals.
