    D&D (2024) Martial/Caster fix.

The base game D&D is a game of adding onto the base standard. (Can't get the bold off 😞) Fans make things more complex and harder than it is.

    D&D (2024) Martial/Caster fix.

It was more not a lot of folks wanted to look at. Many of the wish lists for 3e and 5e is 4e stuff "written the long wordy way".

    D&D (2024) Martial/Caster fix.

Using those rules is not out the book. Meaning just the core books. Ignoring rules is also not playing out the book Which is my point. 1e and 2e were not designed to be played straight. TSR and Gygax wanted you to feel the need to buy more books or subscribe to their zines. ESPECIALLY for high...

    D&D (2024) Martial/Caster fix.

Or just design a weapon system with branching levels of complexity. I was going off the design that 1e and 2e were both designed not to be played completely straight and intended for your table to add supplemental rules, variant rules, or house rules. So by high level, very very few people if...

    D&D (2024) Martial/Caster fix.

Out the book, those edition didn't work at high level. The Martial/Caster problem was worse. And much of your enjoyment of the mechanics of your PC was heavily DM and table dependent on skewing and house rules.

    D&D (2024) Martial/Caster fix.

Combat maneuvers should NOT be a must. At least isn't the resource using side. There should be a basic standard that all Martials should start with. Then the option to stay basic, go advance, or jump to expert. But these shouldn't be tied to subclass. That's the beauty of how a Weapon...

    D&D (2024) Martial/Caster fix.

It wouldn't be direct upgrades in all cases. A Light Hammer, Scimitar, and Dagger would keep Nick. A Light Hammer could get Stammer which prevents the Disengage and Dodge actions. A Scimitar could get Slice (Nick 2.0) that offers a 2nd offhand attack. A Dagger could get Flutter that lets you...

    D&D (2024) Martial/Caster fix.

4e works better at high level mostly because the other editions are barely functioning at high level.

    D&D (2024) Martial/Caster fix.

Personally, I don't think giving Martials Spells (5e), Powers (4e), or Traditions (late 3.5e/A5e) is the solution. IMHO: Martials should just get better stats and actions. And that is either by upgrading their at-wills. In 5e words, Upgrading Weapon Masteries when tiers increase. The same way...

    D&D (2024) Githzerai Psion? Thri-kreen Psion? Where's My Psion?

I am a fan of D&D having 3 psionic "caster" classes, one for each mental score. An INTELLIGENCE based Psion A WISDOM based Ardent A CHARISMA based Wilder One of the Psion or Wilder would cast spells and the other would mostly have in-depth 1E/2E/Pre-3e psionic powers/disciplines. My preference...

    D&D (2024) Githzerai Psion? Thri-kreen Psion? Where's My Psion?

Sure but the question asked was (From WOTC) WOTC would never devote that much space to the class in 5e not named Wizard or Cleric. Not even druid gets all their stuff

    D&D (2024) Githzerai Psion? Thri-kreen Psion? Where's My Psion?

I think people keep walking over to issue that some people want to be Professor X while other people want to be Yoda and It's hard to make both of them in the same class. Then you got the guy who wants to make a Cthulhu cultist with mind tentacle powers weaseling themselves into the same space.

    D&D (2024) Githzerai Psion? Thri-kreen Psion? Where's My Psion?

There are PLENTY of stuff I like I wouldn't or don't spend money not put on the top of my buying list. Like I like the concept of magical schools but I think Strixhaven was too married to MTG color wheel and not close enough to D&D's magic system and thus flavor wise too tame. It should be the...

    D&D (2024) Githzerai Psion? Thri-kreen Psion? Where's My Psion?

I don't think a majority of players will like their version of the psion enough to buy the $30-60 book. That's the problem. I can't see a lot of people liking the official 5e Psion but not liking it enough to buy the book.

    D&D (2024) Githzerai Psion? Thri-kreen Psion? Where's My Psion?

It's a zero sum because WOTC's 5e strategy is clown and minimal publication. I think you're missing the step that I'm ultimately talking about. Sales. A Psion in the way WOTC currently publishes would not drive sales. Not enough people would buy a book for WOTC's 5e Psion to hit their...

    D&D (2024) Githzerai Psion? Thri-kreen Psion? Where's My Psion?

My point is that some people want the wizard. some people want the sorcerer. And some people want the wizard. And some of these people overlap. If WOTC only offered the wizard, people who want the sorcerer and warlock would be dissatisfied. Many would like the wizard, but they'd still want the...

    D&D (2024) Githzerai Psion? Thri-kreen Psion? Where's My Psion?

There are 4 different flavors of psionics. Each are paired with a different mechanical style which matches them.

    D&D (2024) Githzerai Psion? Thri-kreen Psion? Where's My Psion?

The wizards, sorcerers and warlocks situation proves my point. WOTC play tested and all encompassing Mage class due to the grognard thought process of "All casters are the same" The idea was rebuked soooo haaaard. The community would not accept a Mage class that still maintained 5es core...
