D&D (2024) Is Counterspell less frustrating now?

It also highly favor spellcasters even more when non-counterspellable PC's just have to sit there and let a debilitating spell resolve while the most impactful classes in the game both protect themselves and disrupt the enemy with a fairly low-level resource at high levels.

    D&D (2024) Fighter (Playtest 7)

I suppose it depends on the weapon and how stifling the DM wants to be. A table leg would be a greatclub but they might consider something like the bard's lute to not do that much damage. Regardless, its still not the most powerful option in terms of damage for the fighter.

    D&D (2024) Fighter (Playtest 7)

I don't think the Improvised Weapon is a d8 unless your DM uses the Greatclub stats. Otherwise, its still a 1d4. A very versatile 1d4, but not something you're using for maximum damage.

D&D (2024) Is Counterspell less frustrating now?

It makes spellcaster PC vs spellcaster NPC fights much more dangerous and exciting. Now, you actually can't relax when a Lich is on the battlefield just because you have two counterspell casters (even though the Lich should have Globe of Invulnerability anyways).

    D&D (2024) Fighter (Playtest 7)

From what I'm seeing, the main draw isn't damage or anything, its spontaneous weapon mastery. A brawler fighter can use a two-handed table leg and Push the target next to his ally, then Cleave them for damage on both without switching weapons. Or you can take a scimitar and a lamp and...

    D&D (2024) Barbarian (Playtest 7)

This must be vague language because what I'm reading is that as long as you continue hitting the same target your entire turn, you get 2-6d6 extra damage every attack. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, they haven't changed the way crits work, right? Because I think Brutal Critical's extra damage...

D&D 5E Tedium for balance. Should we balance powerful effects with bookkeeping?

From the replies, this could actually be a big problem for OneD&D. If WoTC doesn't even know their balancing system is being completely ignored, they may lean into it. Imagine a spell that required a 50,000 gp material component cost and was practically Wish with no downsides, and players...

    D&D (2024) Barbarian (Playtest 7)

I assume they did this in case they add another ressurection spell so they don't have to errata every time.

    D&D (2024) Barbarian (Playtest 7)

Fun fact, a Barbarian is more likely than not to frighten an ancient dragon than they are to frighten them (which is none assuming they're raging). This also assumes they don't use Legendary Resistance which they might but it's acrually ideal for the party if they use it on that feature.

D&D 5E Tedium for balance. Should we balance powerful effects with bookkeeping?

From the replies, this could actually be a big problem for OneD&D. Remember the Create Spell line from the playtest, which was crazy utility for wizards that were already great at it? That also had material components and I think WoTC never intended for that spell to be good outside of being a...

D&D 5E Tedium for balance. Should we balance powerful effects with bookkeeping?

By RAW, that's actually how it works. The Monster Manual says that if a creature needs a material component for a spell they need to cast, you can just assume they have it.

D&D 5E Tedium for balance. Should we balance powerful effects with bookkeeping?

I intended the poll to mention specifically "Tedius Bookkeeping," because the if players don't mind it, then it isn't really a negative at all. It should be something requiring patience, accurate tracking of events, and nothing especially stimulating or fun. Basically, making using the effect...

D&D 5E Tedium for balance. Should we balance powerful effects with bookkeeping?

I think the intention is the opposite. If the adventure requires planar travel, it will be provided to them as much as needed. The plane shift spell is merely additional power that a player can access. I think there should never be any adventure that requires a certain spell or ability to...

D&D 5E Tedium for balance. Should we balance powerful effects with bookkeeping?

So, for a real 5e example: Plane Shift is a very powerful spell and a highlight of the arcane caster's spell list. However, it does have a material component. While the average group considers the material component as an afterthought from just purchasing the right material from the average...

D&D 5E Tedium for balance. Should we balance powerful effects with bookkeeping?

Do you think a tedious amount of bookkeeping, even if the tedium is light, is a valid way to balance effects? For example, if an effect could revive the dead, but only after at least 30 full moons has passed since the last usage otherwise it destroys itself, would this be a bad way of...

    D&D (2024) Playtest Packet 6: Monk reactions?

Hmmm... As I'm looking through at the monk, I wonder how much they value Deflect Missile. I know that its probably too situational that anyone would assume it doesn't see play, but what does WOTC see it as? If I make the very generous assumption that it comes up every round of combat, yeah...

D&D (2024) Monks Are Not Tanks And Shouldn’t Be

Let's say monks are supposed to be tanks. Like, their role is literally to sit in melee combat and take the big hits. What exactly does a d10 hitdice accomplish? Because, remember, that only increases the average HP by 1 per level. So at level 3, you're only getting 3 more HP. It might be...

    D&D (2024) Playtest Packet 6: Monk reactions?

Honestly, I think if they made Patient Defense free in exchange for half your speed, that would make it much more usable and still be fairly balanced. You're still giving up your second/third attack for the ability to be truly elusive. Or maybe double Ki and make patient defense cost one ki...

    D&D (2024) Playtest Packet 6: Monk reactions?

Okay, but the monk isn't better off using a crossbow, except in certain circumstances. Compare that to a wizard with +2 dex, which isn't insane for a wizard, that actually outdamages their strongest cantrip between levels 1-4. You're misrepresenting my fantasy. I want a monk that is smart...
