The Battle of 5 Armies (er...editions)!

Heavily House Ruled 3.5, for me. There are elements of 4th Edition that I like, but just when I think I could switch, I read something that makes me say that I can just turn X into a feat and Y into a house-rule for 3.5. That said, I still like BECMI and AD&D. I just like the 3.5 ruleset as a...

    Chess and diagonals

But, without en passant, the warpawn is vastly underpowered and no one would take that class.

Are stat modifiers really bonus + 1/2 per level?

I tend to agree. I think that some classes might get a flat base attack bonus, but it will not be a progression. Just like the new Rogue's entry says: "Bonus to Defense: +2 Reflex," I expect that the fighter's entry might say: "Bonus to Offense: +2 Melee, +2 Ranged." But, I do think that that...

The impact of allowing a full attack and a move action?

If a full attack and a move action are both allowed, is it possible to take a double full attack if a character doesn't move or a double move if no attacks are made?

D&D 5E What do YOU Want to See Next?

I'd Like to See a Ritual or Two! I'd like to see a ritual or two. I'm curious as to how close they are to the similar stuff in Unearthed Arcana and Call of Cthulhu d20 (like incantations).

How Long Can You DM ?

I think you're right. DM-ing isn't something you do. It's who you are.

Mike's Law of Minimum Encounter Area

We experimented with something similar in AD&D. It was entirely house-ruled, but we were using the idea that three squares equal ten feet. So, each square was a little over a yard across. It worked really well. The only issue is that it takes up more of the battlemat to draw out rooms...

Mike's Law of Minimum Encounter Area

When we ran a certain section of The Shackled City, one of my players often complained about the size of the rooms and hallways. He said they were too small and it felt too cramped. No room to manuever, at all. And, the first characters into the fights were just about the only ones that could...

    Reveille's Feats [Redux]

This looks very similar to Improved Critical, to me. Why not just use Improved Critical on natural attacks?

    What geometry do you prefer?

I've kinda wanted to get a hex mat for a couple of years. Now, I'm pretty sure that I will. Definitely not going to treat diagonal sqaures as 1-1-1-1.

The Best & Worst of 3rd Edition: FINAL FIVE: PHB II, UA, Eberon, Ptolus, Pathfinder

And copies of it often sell on the second-hand market for far more than it originally cost. One of the few RPG books that improves in actual dollar value over time. Ptolus... Simply the best. I wish all RPG books were that well put together. And, that goes beyond the content. The book is...

    Spell-less Ranger confirmed by Mearls

First, I really like the news about 4e concerning the Ranger and the ability to customize classes and to be able to run non-magic campaigns (I really want to see a martial controller). Best news I've heard about 4e (other than the Dragonborn, which I didn't like at first...) But, I gotta...

Craft an NPC... DCC: The Castellan, Half-Dragon Ettin

Also, would you count this as two NPC's as far as XP goes? Counting each head separately?

Craft an NPC... DCC: The Castellan, Half-Dragon Ettin

So, I've got this Dungeon Crawl Classic's mini assembled: A Half-Dragon Ettin. Here's the catalog picture. Mine's not painted, yet. He's going to be evil and likely a recurring villain in my campaign. Each head is going to be 8th level. The setting is semi-prehistoric. Gnoll tribes to the...

Monte's 3.75? (A sequal is on its way)

Very true. But, a major complaint that I have... Typos, misprints, etc... really bother me. So much so that I actually refused to buy a certain book that I was really looking forward to (from another third party company) because of the typos that were reported in reviews. Thorough playtesting...

Monte's 3.75? (A sequal is on its way)

Hmmm... Clearly the archmage, Malhavoc, is using The Book of Inverted Darkness to control the Helm. I hope not. It shouldn't be because of a lack of self-confidence in the houserules, unless he hasn't had time to test all of them in actual play. And, I doubt that.

Monte's 3.75? (A sequal is on its way)

No problem, Aus! I like Monte Cook's Malhavoc Press stuff. His Arcana Evolved was the first non-WotC book that I bought for 3/3.5e. It set a very high standard for others to aspire to. Ptolus went way beyond that. Monte's houserules will be considered extremely valuable by me (or the Helm...).

Monte's 3.75? (A sequal is on its way)

No problem for me, Aus... This new book's abbreviation shall be BoXM (at least, according to me... Or, is it the Helm.... Darn thing has a mind of its own, most of the time...). I'm looking forward to The Book of eXperimental Might. :p

Do you like "off screen" events to be rules-plausible?

That link is one of the major reasons I fell in love with the idea of E6 (sixth level is as high a level as a mortal can achieve and from then on out, mortals only gain feats that a sixth level character could qualify for) That makes the Williams from England that died by falling off horses at...
